If heading to Canaveral by car in the near future for a cruise

be advised that Love Bug season is underway and my early observation
is they are heavier than the last few years. At times today the 'splats'
sounded like I was driving in a rain storm.

I dunno how it is in the rest of the state but around here . . . buggy

How long is love bug "season". I arrive in two weeks and wondered if this is something I will have to deal with. :)

Here in Tampa they are not nearly as bad as the past two years. Last year I paid my girls to swat them away while at the pool, lol! This year, they haven't been bad at all.

We have cruised at this time of year for all (only four) of our cruises. In our experience, the only time they were noticeable while at Port Canaveral was 2013.

In 2011 we were on the Dream around May 7th and they didn't seem bad around Cape Caneveral, but they were all over the boat on the decks and all outside areas. They asked us not to use our balconies until after we were pulled away from port and they hosed everything off. They worked so hard to clean everything and by the next morning the only place we saw them were where some that had been washed off had ended up on top of the life boats. The 2nd morning they were completely gone. This past May we left on the 10th for a week and saw only a couple of the bugs.

Love Bug season is in May & September. They DO NOT bite. They just fly around. Yes, they get hit by cars and stick but if you wash them off at the end of the day you are fine. The enzymes in their bodies can slowly eat the finish off your car. No need to be worried about them.

I just looked them up. It says they are mostly in the South, but I swear we have those same bugs here (Mid Missouri). We get them a couple of times a year (May and September sound about right but not positive) and they are super annoying. I will have to see if they are the same thing when I get to Florida next week. (Yes I did say I am going to start checking out the bugs).
