Love Bugs ???

We are coming in on Wednesday the 8th and I heard the love bugs come back in August/September. Anybody see any???

They have been there in Sept when we have been down. We get used to them. Better than other type of bugs.

They are kind of annoying...but I'd rather them then the aftermath that mosquitoes leave!! lol

Lovebug flights can number in the hundreds of thousands. The slow, drifting movement of the insects is almost reminiscent of snow fall except the flies also rise in the air. Two major flights occur each year, first in late spring, then again in late summer. In south Florida, a third (but smaller) flight can occur in December. The spring flight occurs during late April and May, the summer during late August and September. Flights extend over periods of four to five weeks.

Mating takes place almost immediately after emergence of the females. Adult females live only three to four days.

I live in the Orlando area and have not seen any love bugs yet for the 'summer' flight.

If they are there and you are worried about things like a bug dropping int a soda cup then here is a neat tip. Get some paper cupcake liners. Invert them over the top of the cup and poke a whole in the middle. Insert straw. This eliminates one problem. We even buy disney ones and I stick them in my suitcase.

Living in Orlando also, I have not seen the lovely little love bugs yet.

May can bring love bugs also, but this past May was light in the flying black bugs.

lovebugs here in central florida are typically in may and september, with spillover sometimes in late april/early june, and late august/early october.
this past may was very brief and light, presumably because of our unusually cold winter. we have not seen the fall ones yet (hope that's not a jinx) but we will most likely get some.
they are disgusting, especially when they are swarming, but at least they don't bite/sting. they are worst mid morning and mid afternoon, and they go back into the lawns when it's dark.
we find the density of lovebugs to be much lighter at WDW, no doubt because of their overnight spraying.
they are very attracted to the fumes of vehicles, and are strongly drawn to white and light vehicles, buildings, etc.
if they were here all the time, most of us wouldn't live here, but we feel it's worth dealing with them for two months a year to live here. i don't go out much while they're here ...
