I remember a thread recently when someone asked if love bugs were bad yet. I can certainly answer, without hesitation, that they are here and they are here THICK. I haven't seen an infestation like this in 10 years or better. I guess we will be spending extra money on car washes for the the truck and trailer.

Just think of it as doing your part to stimulate the economy.

We all have to do our part. Mine is coming back to WDW for the second year in a row.....after a long absence.

The love bugs just invaded central Fla this past weekend. So far, they are not too bad - but I just knocked on some wood to protect us!;) Last year at this time, the air was teeming with them, and I had to wash off the front of my truck daily.

When I first read Love Bugs, I initially though of the old VW's - but I figured out they are real - but what are they?
We will be camping the first week of June and I want to be prepared...
Do they bite or are they just annoying? Big or little?

Big compared to mosquitos...depending on where you're from. Non-biting. Annoying in that they crash into the front of your vehicle whenever it moves. Annoying in that they gather on anything remotely sweet. Also on the ends of fresh cut lumber. Love Bugs? They always travel in conjoined pairs.

When we first moved to FL in August 2006 all I heard about were the Love Bugs. I had no idea what everyone was talking about, but was kind of nervous with all the chatter. Then one day we were walking around WalMart and I noticed these flying bugs everywhere. Upon closer inspection I remarked, "Look at all those funny two-headed bugs!" It quickly dawned on me LOVE bugs *doh* My kids still call them 2-headed bugs :)

For the PP - they are just annoying, flying bugs about the size of lightning bugs. They tend to swarm between May and September. I guess they are worse in the Orlando area this time of year, but I haven't really noticed them in the Panhandle until the fall when they are two headed for a reason  They won't hurt you, but they do make a mess of your vehicle when travelling and they are everywhere - all the time.

Oh boy!! :confused3 Something to look forward to.

I guess I will be washing the front of my RV when we get there. Hopefully, since I just waxed it & put Rain-X on the windows, they will come off easily.

They not only are hard to clean off your car but they stink if they get mashed, watch where you sit!

I've heard of people applying stuff to the front of their cars like PAM so they would wash off. I bought a commercial product last year I haven't tried yet. You spray it on the front of your clean car and it creates an invisible film that stays on until you wash your car. It was either Rain-X or Turtle Wax brand, can't remember. I'll look if it I can find it again (in the garage, that got flooded), sort of in a disarray so to speak down there currently.:headache:

They don't swarm between May and Sept. They swarm in May and again in Sept. Only 2 mths each year.

Right now they are thick, haven't seen them this thick in many yrs.

Hmmm I'm in Central Florida and haven't noticed them at all. Maybe one or two; I was just commenting to self about lack of bugs and wondering when they were coming. I wonder if they're just all camping at the Fort this week??;)

love bugs are bad this year.... if you are heading to the fort anytime soon, you will want to bring items to wash your truck and camper. Dh always washes the bugs off as soon as everything is set up.
On a side note, it is funny to watch people get scared of them! We always see someone flip out when one lands on them.... they are completely harmless and just a niusance!!
