Have the love bugs been bad this year and when did they come and leave this year. I am trying to plan for 1st week of may 2010.:yay::confused3:cool1:

I was just there 17th - 21st and didn't see one. Of course, I'm sure the rain from Sunday night to Wednesday had something to do with it. But, I did look on Sunday (when it was nice) and I didn't see any.

Can't speak about this year but we have been end of April, early May and have seen the start of them. Wasn't really bad. Friends have been in September (I think) and it was much worse.

I used to live in Panama City and had to deal with them all the time.. seems like they were the worst mid-summer

We saw a few the first week of May, not too many though. Went last September and they were absolutely horrible.

We were are VB first week of May... didn't see a single one. ;) OR pair... in case you are thinking it was a trick answer.

We too visited the first week in May. We saw a couple in and around the parks/resorts. The official 'front of my car' count was about a half dozen (from the ride in Florida back to Charleston, SC).

With the recent rains in Florida perhaps an upsurge can be expected shortly.

Ok what are love bugs? Do they bite? After my battle with no see um's at vero last year I'm not looking for a second round. I hate bugs. They seem to enjoy me.

They just fly around and look a friend to make future generations of love bugs :hippie: they do not bite, they are just annoying as they are usually out in droves... oh and they mess up car paint when you splat them on the road...

This year I was at BCV the first week in May and saw 1 lovebug.

And we saw just one over at OKW that first week also. If you want to avoid the lovebugs, think twice about going in September. This is what I encountered one September-

We were at WDW 5/9-5/15 and only saw a handful of lovebugs. Living in Florida, we're used to them and get rather amused by the frequent comments here. They don't bite and we don't pay any attention to them, but some people are just creeped out by any bug.

Lovebugs can be a real problem when driving for long distances on the expressways, though. They'll absolutlely coat your windshield and definitely obscure your vision.

If you are driving the Florida Turnpike, there is a windshield washing station at each rest area. (It will be right where you say, "Why are all those morons just sitting in line for nothing?" just before you re-enter the Turnpike.) You just pull up to the station and the water jets come on automatically. Does a pretty good job.

I was there last week, and the only love bug I saw was in DHS. His name was Herbie!

We just got back yesterday (05/23) and saw a number of them at WL on Friday and Saturday. I wonder if the rain is going to make them come out more? They were rather annoying because they kept buzzing around my head :).

Oh well. Guess we're just going to have to put up with 'em.

Love bugs generally visit central Florida during the last three weeks of May to 1st week of June and mid-September to mid-October. So far this year there have been very few love bugs around.

We jut got back from our trip from 5/17 - 5/24. I made a comment to DH that I did not see that many lovebugs but then again, maybe they don't know how to do the backstroke with all the rain!

I can definately say Sept is usually horrible for Love Bugs. We have been three different weeks in Sept and man-o-man it was like a horror movie!!! Like PP said they don't bite or sting, they are just disgusting and they stick to everything and when you try to get them off you they pretty much just die and their guts go all over you.

We were there from 5/10 - 5/16 and saw a couple of love bugs, but they weren't a bother. We used WDW transportation, so we had no worries about bugs on windshields.
