Love Bugs!!

Have been here at SSR since the 19th and have not seen any love bugs yet.

We were there at the exact same time last year - Sept 29th - October 8th - and they were everywhere for about 5 days. Then they just literally disappeared. DN who was 3 1/2 freaked out - and we weren't thrilled - but it wasn't awful. It was really weird how overnight they were gone though!

We were there in May...stayed one night at Vero and headed back to WDW
I could not believe the amount of bugs that splattered that poor rental car

I will admit to being surprised about how many bug remnants show up on the front of the rental car. But, I have to be honest and say that we have been down a number of times in October, and i never remember being bothered by bugs.

Should we "plan" for lovebugs? Not big insect fans in our family...so this makes me nervous.

Some people seem to have suggested it's "Late" May that the lovebugs invade...but will we have tons during our visit May 11-17 next spring?

TIA for any info. I need to start preparing my two kids, who are "bugphobic".

I'm in South Louisiana and we have them swarming here right now. Probably been here for 2 weeks. they are dying down a bit. I hope they are not in Orlando in two weeks when we go!

This thread is so funny because I just moved to SC and they are everywhere! I told DH that I don't mind them because it means that I now live that much closer to WDW!! Tho they definately are not as bad as they get in WDW.

From what I understand, the love bugs are usually gone by October 1st. Their fall "season" usually occurs somewhere during the last 2 weeks in September and only lasts 7 to 10 days.

So while you'll hear some horror stories from people like yourself who unfortunately arrive at the height of the love bug season in the spring (in May) or the fall (last 2 weeks in September), I believe you'll be very lucky! For all practical purposes, their season will be ending or already over by the time you arrive. I suspect the WORST you can expect is the very tail end of their season for the first couple of days you are there.

In other words, I think they'll already be pretty much GONE and your family will have a FANTASTIC vacation. Your daughter's ears should survive the trip completely unmolested!

Agreed... it is my understanding that Love Bugs are gone after September until May. Hope this is the case.
