Love Bugs in Florida
We do not want to visit with them.

Are they around the 1st weeks of May?
Are they around just in September?
Are they still around late October?

Also since they like the color white - are the Value resorts, since there is a lot of white concrete around - are they the worst resorts for Love Bugs?
Does the concrete around CR also entice Love Bugs to visit there?

please help

No idea if they are worse at any resort in particular. I remember parking lots being crazy. Yes early May they should be around. By the third week this year I didn't see any. Of course I was bummed as I like them.

They were horrible at Animal Kingdom Lodge/Kidani when we were there in 2011.

I wouldn't even attempt to predict a lovebug (technically, it's all one word). Well, there's one thing that is predictable. They don't live very long - females 3-4 days, males slightly longer. So I feel a little sorry for them as they have such a short time to bring the next batch along. They don't bite or sting so we just ignore them as best as we can. That being said, we leave tomorrow for Lake City, FL so am armed with stuff to get the ones that end up on our car taken care of.

Lovebugs are in Central Florida now--September and May. They are usually around for 3-4 weeks.

Lots of Lovebugs this past May 11-18. Never noticed them on our previous trips, Oct.-Nov.-Jan.

We were there the first week of May last year..no love bugs. The last week of September 2006 they were horrid! Couldn't use our balcony at AKL because they would get in the room as soon a we cracked the door.

So how do you get rid of lovebugs?

For stink bugs up here in the north, I use raspberry air fresheners.
I put the raspberry air fresheners in the attic and in the garage.
It seems to keep them out of our home in the Spring and Fall.
Plus it is not a bad smell when we enter the garage.

Do lovebugs not like some sort of natural items?

Really raspberry air fresheners work for stink bugs??? Because since we moved to our new house in January we can't get rid of them!! If they really work for you I think I'll have to buy some :)

Yes - we buy Renuzit Raspberry air fresheners.
It does work great. We find them for 99 cents in our food store and they always seem to sell out.

IF you have the stink bugs in your home - place the air fresheners in all the rooms - especially the garage and attic where the stink bugs can come in.
I hope your family likes the smell, you do get used to it.

Stink bugs arrive in the NE USA around March - April, so we start the Raspberry routine. We leave a Raspberry air freshener in the garage and attic all summer - but the stink bugs normally stay away from the home. Now that it is getting cooler, the stink bugs are looking for a place to nest during the cold winter. So staring in August, I place 3 Renuzit Raspberry air fresheners in the attic and in the garage. It gets a bit Raspberry stinky - but the bugs go away and do not nest in our home. I repeat the process in September, October & November - till we get a heavy frost.
So for about $6 a month - we are stink bug free.

Best of luck to you.

They have two seasons, May and September but not October. Tend to be larger numbers is May.

They are attracted by light colors but really they are everywhere and I wouldn't choose a resort based on that. However, remember, they are completely harmless to humans and do not bite. Their biggest effect is on the paint of your car.

Had them everywhere on both of our September trips, but never saw them in May.

This is strange because when we were there in May 2011, we didn't see any :confused3. But on both of our September trips, they were everywhere.

when they are not in May - they are generally there in June.

same for Sept and Oct.

they also now are in GA and AL - so be prepared if you drive - bring paper towels and window cleaner.

they are harmless to people and pets - they just get in the way - so no outside eating (if possible) - wear sunglasses - so they don't fly into your eye - and just try to do the inside stuff while they are activate.

they are far less activate at night. but at dawn they start again.

they die in the rain - so going while it is raining can be good.

my favorite time to good is May and Sept - because the crowds are lower and the deals are better.

When we were there Sept 2011 they weren't all that bad except for the day we swam at Coronado Springs. They were everywhere at the pool, it was just awful. I don't care that they don't hurt me, they are in your face and in your food, and literally underfoot between heel and flipflop, and it was just disgusting. It was SO weird that they were at AT resort in such quantities, but nowhere near as bad everywhere else during that trip.

If this works out for me I will love you forever. Stink bugs are so creepy looking.

Hmmmm......good to know! :thumbsup2

I was told they were brought in as a predator to Mosquitos, however the love bugs had no predator and became out of control. Not sure how true this is though. I was told not to kill them though or they will be more attracted to you If you have their scent on you, again not sure how true this is. I ended up drinking one last trip through my straw when I toke a sip of soda out of my refillable mug. I knew I drank something I opened my lid and it was full of love bugs. Going down the waterslides was also a problem you needed to keep your mouth and eyes closed...lol!

We experienced them in 2011 during the last week of September. They were noticeable when we were at the pool at POR and also the most irritating at DHS. We saw random ones at other times, but nothing noteworthy.
