If you are going to FW for memorial weekend love bug are bad right now. So use a good polish with PTEF or Teflon on the front of your Rv to keep the bug form sticking to your finish.

Thanks for the warning!

Time to get the TT ready to leave next week!

Last month during our 2 weeks visit to Florida, we "ran" into a small amount of love bugs for the very first time. It was too funny to see my DH's face, he thought we hit a small downpour! SPLAT!!!

They are worse because of the drought right now. I haven't seen swarms of them like they are now in many a year...

They hatch when we have a small shower, so man o' man, they come out with the smallest amount of rain...

Make sure you get them off as quick as you can. The acid in their bodies eats your paint!

I've been reading that the love bugs have been out for about 2 weeks now.
How long do they usually hang around?
Leaving next week and I have a real bug phobia. Last September we cut our trip short because they were so bad.
Are they as bad now as they were then?

My Dh is out of town and I am trying to get the camper ready for FW. I've never done this before. Where do you get these wax products - at a camping supply place or Walmart? What would I look for? Thanks in advance!

No, personally I don't think they're as bad as last year. But, they are definitely here! They ignore you, and they don't bite. But, once in awhile, while they're flying they'll end up landing on you by mistake. Just brush them off. They won't hurt you! :)

It seems to be worse. During DD's swim team practice, the love bugs are hovering planning their attack!

We just got back from Disney, and while they are out, they are not as bad as they were last year. It's still going to make a mess, but I was actually able to get most of them off when we got home just using our garden hose.

It was a lot worse last year at this time though, but it's still enough that you should take some precautions. I'm just glad that it's not so bad (yet) that it turns the entire front of your car black...lol.

Think I will bring the brush and some cleaning supplies and give it a quick wash down when we do get to the ft.

I would like to know this, too. We are leaving on Thursday.

Something that works well to keep bugs from sticking is PAM cooking spray.

If you do get bugs stuck on,white vinegar does a good job of removing them.

I was about to say, if you want to just use an easy home product, PAM is about your best bet. My parents have used it on their camper front the last couple years, it really helps, and washes off nicely. Don't put it on your windshield though...lol.

PAM, the cheap and easy version of keeping those pesky love bugs off your car/camper! :)

It is not a wax it is a polish with PTEF. I got it at Walmert in the boating area made by star Bite.

Oh how lovely.....My DD can spot a bug a mile away and is petrified of them. This should make for a relaxing trip NOT!:headache: We really need a head slapping smilie.

But let me get this straight, you take a can or two of Pam and spray it on the front of your RV and the love bugs should come right off? I have to tell my DH who is going to look at me as if I'm crazy. We're leaving Wednesday night so I'll just add one more thing to his list. Poor guy.

Yep, we've done it for years, and I know of quite a few other people that do as well. It's kind of the cheap home remedy version, but it works just as well as anything else I've ever seen. You're basically putting a greasy type product on the front of the camper, so the love bugs don't get a chance to "stick" to the camper/car/etc... As long as you're sure to wash it off whenever you get where you're going, you'll be fine!

I don't think anything can guarantee that you'll get every single little bug mark off, but the products listed in this thread will definitely help in reducing the majority of your work.

Thanks for the advice. Its brandy new and I almost hate to drive it and get it dirty.:lmao:

Even with the products listed DON'T let them bake in the Florida sun clean them off as soon as you get to the site.

Yep, the worst thing you could do is turn your camper into a nice PAM roasted camper. Don't think it would smell nearly as nice as most cooking either...lol

We just got back Sunday from the cabins. I didn't think the bugs around Disney were bad at all, but we took a day trip to Kennedy Space Center and hit a big swarm of them just before you make that last turn that leads to the visitor center It was like it was raining bugs. Never saw anything like it! It took a good while to get them off! So, if you happen to be headed out that way, beware!
