Love Bug Update?

We live next door to WDW and had a hoarde of them dive bombing our hot tub yesterday. Ugh! Looks like they're back.

They were very heavy here in So Alabama yesterday. But so far none seen this am. So maybe they are dying off. Lets hope so I will be in Disney next week.

We live about 2 hrs away and we are noticing that they are showing up again already, but not terribly just yet.

Only place I noticed them all week was at Blizzard Beach on 9/11/08 and that was mostly near the locker area, but there sure were a lot of them.

They are not at my house 30 mins from Disney, and I spent several hours at MK last night and did not see ANY! Just a bunch of annoying mosquitos.

from a week long trip yesterday and didn't see any love bugs at all. Saw plenty of lizards....and a rather large snake slithering on the sidewalk while walking back to Shades of Green! But no love bugs.

They are definately tapering off here. I rode my motorcyle yeasterday and didn't have to stop and clean the widshield at all till I got home. This past thursday I had to stop twice in a shorter distance. I hope they all come out around the same time everywhere.

And I hope it has been asked before.

What exactly are Love Bugs?

JD

They are this annoying littler bug that flies around while mating. They only come out about twice a year. They don't bite or anything, just a pain.

Oh they love the color white.

Sorry I tried to resize it but it won't go any smaller.

Thanks budmonster! I have read a lot of posts about them and have never found anyone explaining what they were.

I hate bugs! Except for cartoon bugs! LOL!

At WDW right now - got here on Saturday and not one lovebug sighting yet. I hope it stays that way!

I second that the lizards are everywhere, though - I've named one of the sidewalks at the resort "Lizard Walk" cuz you have to pay such close attention to make sure you don't step on em!

Everyones guess that they are over with or they haven't got there yet? This is rather odd as the last two years we have heard a ton of reports and it seems like this year its rather quiet! ::..knock on wood..:

Like it was posted earlier. They are small flying bugs and usually fly in pairs after locking up mating. The real problem is there are many thousands of them. They get on and in everything. Even your mouth if your not carefull. They are attracted to carbon monoxide so the congregate on highways a lot. Their guts are corrosive to paint. In peak season you'll hit so many the front of the car will be black. If you don't get them cleaned off you'll have damage. Not to mention how annoying it is to stop every so often to clean the windshield. The washer fluid won't hardly touch them at all. It takes soap and elbow grease. I always carry a teflon scouring pad in my truck. Hope this helps.

Im almost embarassed to say we moved our 2008 trip up to May to avoid them rather than go in the fall. My wife is totally wigged out by bugs in general. I can only guess she would be freaked out by the little critters:lmao:

On the bright side we are heading back in April since its such a nice break from the crummy pittsburgh weather in the spring:thumbsup2

Ive read others doing the same thing dont feel embarassed!

Can anyone tell me how long these little pests stick around when they visit? We are arriving on 9/27 and I'm a bit worried. Since there haven't been too many sitings of these things, should I assume that they are on their way?

Are there years that they don't really descend upon Orlando and WDW?
