I loved that movie! I can't recall if it was big...but I haven't heard of it not doing well.

I don't remember it being really big in the theaters, but we stumbled across the dvd and LOVE it. When Jamie proposes to Aurelia I get goosebumps!

I watched it last Christmas and liked it. I don't think it was huge, but almost $60 million is good.

fab movie
love the part with hugh frant as the PM saying i am prepared to be much stronger

Love that movie! I especially liked the relationship between Liam Neeson and that absolutlely adorable little boy. Check out the deleted scenes on the dvd--really funny!

I was watching that scene as I posted! I envy you just getting goosebumps...it's full blown crying for me!

I love the movie.. I stumbled across it on cable while home sick last year...I liked it so much I bought the DVD.

I actually downloaded a couple of the songs from the soundtrack onto my Ipod last night... Joni Mitchell & Beach Boys!

I started it and just didn't get interested (I don't watch much in the way of TV/movies). Apparently I didn't give it a chance! I guess I will rent it again; I love movies that make me cry.

I LOVE that movie!! Have it on DVD and have watched it so many times.

"Are you telling me there was more than one lobster present for the birth of Jesus?"

"Duh!!"

One question tho. The guy who starts singing in the wedding scene...is he someone famous over there?

Can someone summarize what the movie is about? Thanks.

Love it but don't recall anything sad???

Regretfully watched it initially with teen daughter. The porn people I could have done without.

I adore this movie :sunny:

I also get goosebumps at the proposal scene, but the one that gets me bawling is the scene in the bedroom where the Joni Mitchell song is playing.... (trying not to spoil it for anyone here) :)

It's a really great movie about several people that are inter-connected by loving relationships. In a nutshell...

The British Prime Minister falls in love with his assistant, a recently divorced writer falls in love with his Portugese house keeper and they can't verbally communicate, a widower deals with raising his late wife's son and helps the little boy get recognized by the girl he loves, a couple is threatened when the husband is attracted to his secretary and a workaholic girl who is saddled with responsibility for her mentally ill brother tries to find love. Also the best friend of a recent groom realizes that he is in love with the bride. There's a bit of comedy with an aging rock star and his hit "cheesy" christmas song as well as a bit about porn stars in love (probably the most disposable part of the movie).

Each story is very sweet and it stars LOADS of famous actors, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson (who is heartbreaking!), Kiera Knightley, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman.

I highly recommend it!

That's one of my favorite movies and, oddly enough, one of DH's favorites, too. We watch it often and catch something new each time.

The scene that makes me cry is when Emma Thompson breaks down in the bedroom--quietly so as not to alert her husband or kids, has a good cry, then straightens the bedspread before she goes back out. Not a word is spoken but it's heartbreaking.

I also love the chemistry between Liam Neeson and the boy who plays his stepson. They're great together.

Love, love, love it. Emma Thompson's character breaks my heart every time I watch it. When she smooths out that bedspread and goes out of the bedroom to try and act like nothing has happened in front of her kids I just bawl!

One of my all-time favorite movies. I watched it this year while I put up my Christmas Tree.

It's one of those movies that just make me feel GOOOOOD. :cloud9:
