Lounges at Gatwick

We are flying to Orlando on 25th January, a lot of the VS015 flights have been delayed over an hour in the last few days.

I am thinking about the possibility of booking a lounge for hubby and I at Gatwick to while away the time.

Although we are flying with Virgin we can't book the V-Room as its not with Virgin Holidays (shame!), so I'm wondering if anyone else has tried the other lounges at Gatwick and could give some recommendations.

We looked at the no1 lounge i think its called for this year as we cant book vroom either.

I went into No 1 lounge in october. Some stuff is free and some you pay for - could get a hot pot breakfast free but pay at seated restaurant upstairs. Also a small buffet of cold breakfast stuff. I didn't have the cold but some people near me did and didn't think much to it. the hot pot (can't remember quite what it was called!) was actually quite tasty.

Champagne cost but wine was free. Seats close together but quite comfy.

We always book the Virgin Clubhouse. You can do this through Virgin Holidays even if your flight is booked through Virgin Atlantic.

Hmm, not sure about No 1, you are restricted to three hours so the website says.

That's pretty standard. There are 2 lounges at Gatwick South terminal that all passengers can pay to enter -No1 lounge and the Servisair Lounge. Both are 'restricted' to 3 hours.

Whilst they say you are restricted to 3 hours I've stayed in the No1 lounge one for 4 hours and nothing was said. They do note down arrival times however so we may have just been lucky.

You do have the option of paying for additional hours if your flights delayed. Think it was £5 per extra hour.

Actually, the Virgin Clubhouse is free to upper class passengers but any VA passenger can use it for a fee.

Even when we don't fly UC we always go into the clubhouse prior to boarding for a bit of R&R.

I can't remember the cost off the top of my head but it's around £40pp and you can just do a walk up on the day and pay if you want.

Officially they can refuse non-UC customers due to capacity issues but we've never been refused in the four times we've done a walk up when not UC passengers.

You can also use flying club miles to pre book this lounge. It's 18,000 miles pp.

Although anyone can book I think they tend to refuse Children under 12 (unless flying UC). I'm sure that's what we were told last time but not sure.
