I always notice people around me in grocery stores buying lottery tickets and scratching right there or anywhere to see if they won. Often they will be in the middle of the first aisle, scratching away in front of the bananas. Sometimes I see discarded tickets among the tomato sauce, or worse, dropped all over the ground in the parking lot. But what I saw today takes the cake. I was walking into the market, and there stopped in the middle of the road, was an older woman scratching a ticket. BUT, she had an infant in a stroller stopped in the middle of the road with her!!! I think I hesitated for a moment, stunned, looked both ways to make sure no car was ready to run them over, and kept walking. I didn't say anything, but WOW. I know there are many people out there with these addictions, but this was so disturbing. The way traffic is around here, she was putting that baby at risk, all for a stoopid lottery ticket! OK, so why can't people wait till they get home to scratch? I mean what is the freaking rush? This was so disturbing.
