Lotso? What are they thinking?

Toy Story 3 SPOILERS


Ok, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but in Hollywood Studios, in the Animation Building, in the featured character area that used to be occupied by characters from Up!, we now have Lotso Hugginbear?

Did I miss something? Who in the hell would want to meet him or get a picture with him? He was a totally irredeemable character, he leaves them for dead and rubs their nose in it, totally questioning their faith in Andy. WHO MADE THIS DECISION? This would be like having a meet and greet for Scar, or Hades, or Ursula. While the idea might seem cool, this isn't some Halloween thing.

I just don't get it, why not use one of the other new characters.

Does anyone know why they went this way?

Lots of people like villians, especially older kids and adults. That's probably why.

I get that, I totally do. But he isn't a cool villain, he isn't funny or even dark, he's just sad and pathetic. Also, I don't get the sense that they are promoting him as a villain, but rather as a lovable cuddly bear who smells like strawberries.

I find it kind of amusing that he's a strawberry scented cuddly bear who's EVIL!! But I admit, I can have a twisted sense of humor sometimes.

Wonder if the Lotso you meet in DHS is strawberry scented.

I guess it just makes me think of a creepy guy with candy. Ya know, here's the cute cuddly bear that smells like strawberries, and will totally leave you to die in a fire inferno.

Actually, I'm hoping to see him this fall if he's still there. There really weren't any other new major characters that they could bring in. Baby would seriously creep me out. I was a little creeped out by Baby in the movie!
Some people will like Lotso, some won't... but, he's the newest Pixar character so my guess is that's why he's there.

DH and I got our picture with Lotso back in early May when he first started making appearances at DHS. I had no idea about the character but thought he was so cute and cuddly. After we returned I did some research and found that he was really a bad guy. Yeah, I thought it was a little weird but I look at our picture now and think it's really pretty awesome.

No but a strawberry scent is pumped into the area, so I've heard, I never noticed it though.

EXACTLY!!! Haha, I don't know how much I like Lotso, he made me mad. To me he's diffrent then other villians, and not by his looks, perhaps because the dislike comes from the emotional connection I had with Woody Buzz and the Gang if you get what I mean.

At TSM, didn't they replace the Bo Peep game with a Lotso game?

This makes me really feel bad for Woody! She not only got taken away from him in Andy's room, but in TSM also!

Well, that's one line we won't have to wait in. My DD (who loved getting her picture taken with Jafar and Hook), does not want to go anywhere near Lotso.

I feel the same way but all my 6yo son talks about now is buying a Lotso. I keep saying WHY? He was so mean and just YUCKY. That upset me too because in the begining of the show he was so cute and nice. I was hoping they would make him change his ways by the end of the show. To begin with I would have bought him Lotso but after seeing the movie, I keep trying to talk him out of wanting it. If I saw a real Big Baby at Disney, I think I would definitely not enjoy it either. But I did tell my kids that Big Baby kind of reminds me of a doll I used to have LOL. Toy Story 3 was definitely my least favorite of them all. The little girl was cute though. I forget her name. She reminded me of the little girl Boo (I think that was her name) from Monster's Inc.

i gotta say i am really surprised at the hostility towards lotso.

stinky pete was a villian, in fact, he "really was stinky pete" (to paraphrase the movie). i am not aware of such hostility towards el stinko de peto, but then again, maybe no one has children looking for him

personally i think Pixar did a perfect job in creating new characters in TS3, including Lotso. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing who is dastardly down to the strawberry stuffing inside him. without a villain, TS3 would have been lame. So i ask, what would you want from your villain that differs from Lotso.

i think the genius of the Toy Story trilogy lies within the characters. First, we all can relate to some, most or all of the toys from our childhood. Right there they have most of us hook line and sinker. But for me, the real hook is that the individual characters all remind me of someone i've met or known in life. The latest addition with Lotso is no exception, he reminds me of someone, shall we say is very prominent in ALL of our lives at the present moment.

To me, the TS trilogy is one of the most perfect, if not perfect series of all time. The story lines are rock solid, the characters are timeless and the casting is phenomenal.

So while we all love the good guy, I appreciate what Lotso brings to the table as being the bad guy.

I don't know who Lotso is, but I do like villians and understand why people want to have pics taken with them.

Much rather take a pic with Jafar than Aladdin. Ditto Scar vs. Simba, Ursula vs. Ariel, etc.

The villians are more interesting.

I don't really know who else they would have brought in to be the meet and great character. I'm sure they'd want a new character, but most of the 'new' ones are pretty minor. Lotso was something that they brought in, and even though he was a 'villan' he's pretty big in the movie. Big Baby would be downright creepy, and Chuckles was pretty creepy himself-that could be my distaste for clowns though.

i felt the same way you did.
I saw Lotso at the parks before I saw the movie. And when we found out that he was evil I was so surprised...I thought he would turn good (he was given the opportunity in the end...) but he didn't o_o Wow

Btw I had tears in my eyes throughout the entire length of the movie (poor 3D glasses )

They replaced Bo with "Rex and Trixie's Dino Darts", not Lotso.

The only reason I think they have him as a greetable character is that he's big, fluffy, and cute so they're covering a large range of people. I think people don't like him since he's such a heartless character and is totally different than what people wanted him to be. I see no problem with it; Pixar usually takes risks and they pay off.

They could have Ken in his hippie garb at the meet and greet. Or his sparkly leisure suit. Or his karate outfit. Or he could have his wardrobe in the greet area.....lol!!!!


My DD bought the Lotso bear with her birthday money. Not sure if she'll still play with it or not.

Great one! I only saw this movie a couple of nights ago, so I haven't had a lot of time to ponder this, but you are spot-ON! lol

What do we have? 2 1/2 years to go?
