Ok were looking at going the last week in August 2014 for my golden birthday and for a belated golden birthday for my mom (she was 1 for hers lol). So Im trying to find out all I can on fort wilderness. It seems like it would be a lot cheeper (and I love camping). I was wondering if anyone knew a place you could rent a motorhome from near disney. Also is it fun to tent camp at disney? We have a 6 person tent and there would be 3 of us (32,30,55). I want to have a great trip but be confortable. Any ideas? Advice? Help?

Fun in a tent in the south in August? You are kidding, right? Only if you enjoy it being so miserably muggy that you can't sleep at night :thumbsup2 Very seriously, you could not pay me - frequent thunderstorms, everything damp in tent, hot, no, thank you. As for your other question about renting an AC (I would hope) MH in the area - I know there are some, but not the company's names. But, I will say this, after renting the MH, plus paying for your site, you would be better off renting one of the cabins there, have more room, and a very pleasant stay with no worries - it's all Disney's problems - enjoy and have fun pixiedust:

Yes, there are several companies that rent all sizes of RVs to use at FW. The details are what you need to look at. Some rental companies rent you the RV at a low price, then make their profit on mileage fees for how far you drive or renting "comfort packages" including basic items like sheets and towels.

Check out my Fort Wilderness web page (link below) for lots of information on the fort and a couple of options on RV rentals.

Now, if you decide to use the tent in August look into using a portable air conditioner (I've seen them at Costco) or yes, muggy and miserable are two words that will describe your trip.

Between the RV rental and site price I don't agree that you would be in the price range of a cabin, but if cost is the driving factor you certainly would save in a value resort over the fort.

Tim's site has some contacts. Others are listed in threads on the front page of this forum so you don't have to look far.

August is wet (afternoon thunderstorms nearly daily), hot, and muggy. You would be miserable. Experienced tent campers who come prepared can do it but the casual tent camper typically doesn't have a good experience in that setting.

The last week of August is typically not busy at the Fort. The summer crowds have gone back to school. If you rent a camper and get a site (one trailer rental company has a travel agent who can do both) you will come out cheaper than a Fort cabin. You shouldn't have trouble getting a site.

But you've got plenty of time to learn and get ready. :3dglasses

Have fun!

ok so i think we will look into renting a RV. Im trying to figure out what makes more sence: renting here (michigan) and driving it 23 hrs to disney or renting there and driving our car to disney. As far as space needed for us, were a close family. As long as we have a spot in the rv for ma and a bedroom for us were good! whats a pop up like to sleep in? we may be able to borrow my boyfreinds, also can you tow one of these behind a car?

MOst rent - drive RV's have an extra charge after a minimum number of miles, likk 100 miles a day. Watch this as it is the killer for pricing.

No bedrooms in a pop up. A bed at each end and the dinette usually turns into a third bed. Towing depends on the car and size of pop up. I have a pop up and I need to tow with a diesel pick up. Every situation will be different.

Also, I would caution you if you have never towed before (with a trailer) or driven a MH (should that be your option to drive) it is not very safe for you or anyone else on the road to just start out on a long trip. We have camped & towed just about everything in the last 40 yrs. but when we got the 5th wheel, then MH's that we've had for 8 yrs. I quit the driving - too nerve wracking for me. He took several different short drives on different types roads before our first long trip. Especially renting one, there's a lot to learn in a short time if you're first-timers. Now, he handles the "operating" stuff and I handle the "inside living" stuff :rotfl2: Have a great trip :woohoo: By the way, now he says driving and handling our Class A MH is like driving a van to him - he loves it!

Boyfreind has done towing and used to be a trucker.
