Hi, I'm new to this board; I've got lots of questions about gardening, but I'll start with one. I just bought some Cypress bark to put around some of my trees and my rose bush. The rose bush's leaves have holes all over them. Is this some kind of disease, or a bug? I didn't previously have mulch around the bush, and this is my first summer with this plant.

Hi CarolynK, and welcome to the Garden! :D

I don't think that the cypress mulch is causing the problem with your rose bush, so I've included 2 links for you, one a rose FAQ page, the other, info on leaf-eating pests.

Leaf-Eating Pest

Roses FAQ Page

I hope this helps!

If your roses have any flowers on them look inside of the petals. You might have Japanese beetles chewing on your plants. You can keep picking them off or spray your plants with Sevin or something similar to it. You can check at your local garden center.
