I'm actually planning a non-Disney trip but thinking about renting a car for three weeks this summer and possibly putting 2 -3 thousand miles on it. Has anyone done this? I don't even know if it's possible. I've only rented cars for around town driving before.

Any advice? Thanks!

WE drive to WDW these days and we always rent a car up here--for the drive down and getting around WDW. We rent a large Buick--a fine car for I-95. It's a tad shy of 1000 miles down from where we live--add the 1000 miles back, plus several hundred in and around WDW, and we're not far from what you propose doing.
Of course, you must have "unlimited mileage"---. Oh--we always rent from Enterprise.

I do this quite a bit. Always get a rental that offers UNLIMITED mileage. I've never been questioned about the mileage when I return it.

Also check carefully for the "geographic limitations". Often unlimited mileage is only within the state, or perhaps includes the neighboring states. Beyond that there may be a mileage charge.

Mileage and geographic, like insurance and waivers, sometimes has to be argued at the counter. Another reason why you need printed copies of your reservation and the company policies, both of which should be available on line if you reserved on line. Be sure that the desired terms are in writing and initialed on your contract, not just your reservation. Even things printed in the contract can sometimes be struck out changed, and initialed. Check the contract to find out whether, when and by whom.

If geographic is not mentioned, I assume it is anywhere in the country but not passing over borders (no Canada or Mexico for U.S. rentals). If the agent refuses to honor the terms expressed or implied by the reservation, I expect to get my money back, Hotwire and Priceline included.

Thanks for your help - I feel better now about starting my planning!

Just to add that at Enterprise, we just tell them where we're going, and what States we're going thru. Mileage has never been questioned.
