I'm going May 15, staying at the former Dixie Landings (Just can't bring myself to call it Riverside Anyway, I'm wondering if there will be lots of kids in May. Yes or no? I'm hoping to be something of a pool hog. :D

When we have gone in May, we have noticed alot of preschool aged children. The pool almost seems more crowded in May than it was when we visited in June.

When I was there last May, 19 - 26, it seemed to be mainly preschoolers. Overall, the weather is great, and the parks are not that full. That is my favorite month. It's after the spring break, and before school gets out.

Last year we went the first week of May and......
OMG.....the amount of small children was unbelievalbe!! and I mean preschool age.....infant to about 4 yrs.
We must have gotten run over and our ankles rammed into a thousand times! I had never seen so many strollers.

I think that most people realize this is such an excellent time of year to go.....and they won't have to pull the little ones out of school.

The pools really seemed crowded mid afternoon with all the little ones.
If I were you I would not expect to have the pool to myself.
But you may get lucky at the quiet pool. ;)

That's why I love going to WDW. But I do love to swim too and sometimes the school age kids take over the pool. But maybe the preschoolers won't run me off the slide in May! :p

I have scabs on the backs of my ankles from being run into with strollers so many times last week. I just assumed I was invisible to most people. They certainly never apologized for it.

Our philosophy is that you shouldn't need a stroller in the parks. If your kid HAS to be in a stroller then he/she is too young to be there. If you have it in case your kid might get tired then you should go back to the resort for "nap time". The people with strollers act like they are the only people in the world and have absolutely NO consideration for other people.

My... what an interesting  philosophy...

Oh my God, they let young kids in at Disney World!?!

Corndog, I absolutely agree that those with strollers (and everyone else) should be considerate of others, but you're in a dream world if you think people aren't going to bring young kids to Disney.

Did I say that people shouldn't take young children to Disney? That's what it's there for! But that being said, what is a child under the age of 2 going to get out WDW? Even if they did recognize characters they wouldn't remember them. It's simply not worth the effort or the money.

My wife and I went last year without our kids and never noticed any problem with people abusing strollers.. This year we are taking our kids (ages 2 & 3) and we think they will have a wonderful time, but to make them walk throughout the park is just cruel. They need a stroller. You shouldn't judge all stroller-users like this because I know I WOULD profusely apologize if I ran into someone with a stroller...

PS our biggest problem last year was actually a group of teen-agers that kept splashing us on the POC ride - but you don't see me saying all teen-agers shouldn't be allowed...

I just took my 22 mo. old there and while I agree that this last trip may not have been the best idea FOR ME at this time (lessons learned), I imagine that when my 22 mo. old gets old enough to really enjoy the place, I will have another little bambino come along that will still be young. I would NEVER deprive my 1st born a trip to the world because traveling with the younger sibling was inconvenient.
Additionally, I have been there many times before I had kids of my own and not one trip has it ever bothered me. It's Disney World!!!!!

Did I say anybody shouldn't be allowed in the parks? NO! Please read my posts before you decide to tear into me. How would it be cruel to let your children walk? I don't think I understand that. I guess you don't have a problem with the people that get wheelchairs just because they don't want to walk either? Countless times we see families with wheelchair in the group go to the front of the line, where when it's time to get on the ride the person in the wheelchair has no problem walking then.

She's 2 years old, only been walking one year of her life. Yeah, we'll let her get out and walk throughout the day but she's not used to several miles of walking yet, especially in 90 degree weather. She's not on the PGA tour, she's on vacation just like us and having a stroller will keep her happier and allow her to have a better time.

Did I say anything about wheelchairs? But since you brought it up, I think its rather judgemental to assume that just because someone can walk 30 feet that they can also walk 3000 feet all day long. I have a family member who only has one leg - sure they can walk with crutches for short distances but I couldn't imagine them walking all day in WDW without a wheelchair.

Come to think of it:

1) People with a broken leg should stay at their hotel, b\c all they will do is ride around in those electric carts and bump into people.

2) Heavy people shouldn't be allowed to walk in the parks b\c they take up too much room

3) Old people shold stay home b\c they walk too slow and cause back-ups

4) Foreigners should stay in their oen country b\c they take too long at the counter service restaurants when they order

5) Brazilian tour groups should stay in Brazil b\c they make too much noise

Everyone should clear out of the parks for me, my heavy wife, my 3 year old son who has a broken leg, and my Brazillian great aunt!!!

If you think that, that's too bad. Again, I never said anybody should not be allowed in the parks. I just think people should stop and think how there actions impact other people, not just themselves. And I don't just mean at Disney. This world would be a much better place if people would think just for a second about others. It's just a little golden rule thing. That's all. Crucify me if it makes you feel better.

Let's see, I have five children that like to go together as a family. So, when my youngest was 4 mos., 18 mos., 2, 3 and 4 years old...we shouldn't have gone all those times because he needs a stroller. The guide books say that we shouldn't expect a kid under 7 to be able to walk the distance in the parks without at least the occasional help of a stroller. So, if we waited until my youngest was old enough to not need a stroller I could have saved myself a bundle by not going until a couple of mine were ready for college. Or, maybe we should have left him in an Orlando day care facility while the rest of us enjoyed the parks. I would love to post the pictures of him watching a parade at 4 months old. Maybe he won't remember it, but DH, my kids and I sure do. Watching him enjoy the park for the past four years has literally been the highlight of our trips. Besides, I believe that exposing young children to a WDW experience stimulates their brains and gives them a broader sense of the world. On the other hand, maybe a playpen in the living rooms would be better for them...

I think "corndog" has a MAJOR screw loose, or cornmeal for brains!!! Why not just put two year olds in a closet for the entire day, they won't remember it!!

corndog has a valid point about people needing to be considerate... If you run into someone with a stroller you should definitely apologize and should be aware of others so as to not run in to them... When we go to WDW next week we will make sure to do this...;)
