If you get them done on the ship, don't wait too long to make your appointment because they do book up. The ladies are very busy on sea days. Dd (9) had cornrows done to the front/crown of her head (25 + tip) on the ship about halfway through the cruise and it took about 45 minutes. Yes, it was a splurge, but I figured the whole cruise was a splurge! The ladies on board did a great job (and dd has a "sensitive" head, lol) and we left them in for about 3 weeks afterwards. I was thinking that it would have been better to have them done at the beginning and keep her hair out of her face, but there is that sunburn factor. All the kids at school, neighborhood and softball team thought they were so cool and I briefly thought about making it a permanent hair style (hair out of the eyes).... Hair conditioner makes it much easier to remove the braids.
I'm not sure how to insert an image (I'm on a Mac), but I do have a picture of dd getting her hair braided.
