Lots of Bag Check Tables at Magic Kingdom

We just returned from Disney yesterday and one of the changes I noticed the very first morning we arrived at the Magic Kingdom. There are now numerous tables added as additional bag check locations in addition to the original locations. They close these down later in the day but in the mornings at least there was pretty much no wait for our bags to be checked.

Here is a picture of the additional tables. Each umbrella is a table with bag check lines available on each side.

On a similar note I was asked to go through the metal detector approx 1/5 times on average. One time it was random. The second time we were entering AK around 5:00 and at that time they were asking everyone to go through the metal detectors.

Thanks, I was wondering about that! It's our first trip, and I had read (elsewhere online) people saying they avoided taking bags due to bag check. If they have this many lines, that should make it easy! :)

They brought them out for MNSSHP, it's nice to see them using it for other crowded times.. Really handy as it's in a good spot for buses and ttc ferry but monorail and resort ferries get the other set which is perfect sized for that group of people coming at the same time.

Was this on a party night? I've been wondering if they have them out on non-party days also.

I also just returned and was happy to see so many bag checks at MK. I have to say I never really waited in the bag check line for any amount of time during my 10 day stay which included lots of park hopping. I noticed during slow times everyone was asked to go through the metal detector. There were many times DH (who went through the no bag line) had to also go through the metal detector. I have no problem with the extra security.

They were using those on crowded mornings during my trip back in April.

I have no idea how long they've been doing this, but I don't think it's new, just select days.

Funny thing, even without those I've not see long bag check lines at MK. Epcot yes, horrible every time we've entered (main gate, not IG). AK, even worse at times, fine at others. HS is like MK, I've never seen bad lines at bag check.
We still go without bags just because I don't need to haul a lot of crap around all day.
I'm hoping they can fix the issues at Epcot sometime.

Was there a few weeks ago and while we arrived later (10-ish) I was hoping they were still using them. Heavy rain had delayed many and it was a busy entry. Even though the crowds were thick from buses, ferry, monorail ... they were in process of closing them and pushed us all to the one entrance. So we still had some congestion.

They started using the expanded bag check long before the party started. July, I believe

I don't disagree, I've always seen the setup off to the side (not this many tables though) but it's the first time I've seen it being used for entrance all year...

EPCOT had a set this past week. They had the bag check where you go straight from the buses and at Opening and right at 11 or Food and Wine there was a set that was to the right of the main set just before no bag. Everyone with no bag was going through metal detectors on Sunday but that was the day after the stuff in NYC so I think it was more to do with that and not Food and Wine.

We've had to go through the metal detector when using the no bag line at Epcot every time we've entered since they installed metal detectors.
At at IG everyone goes through, bag or no bag.

The 2nd day of food and wine no bags weren't all going through when we entered and then the next time all bags were. That's why it stuck out to us.

I would love for all without bags not to have to go through. I don't mind going through really but find it really odd that Epcot is the only park to do this consistently. We go to Epcot a lot on our trips, we've probably entered that gate at least 20 times since they put in the detectors. Every time we've had to stop and empty pockets. And most of the time I have to get wanded too since I wear an underwire bra. It's annoying but otherwise no big deal I guess.

We chose to go to MK 3 days last week and all were party days at the crowds were anticipated to be lower...and were! 5 min wait time for Splash at 2:30 on a beautiful afternoon. I'll take it!

Wth everyone going through at the IG, was there a back up?

I wish they would have at no bag line at IG.

No, we've never encountered a long line at IG
As for no bags, we just walk past those that are getting their bags checked

The IG was horrendous at the end of August. At RD there was a long line but no bagless line. We went to the front on the side and asked a security guard about a bagless line and he let us through. We then had to go through a metal detector. Everyone did. (Later as we were leaving the park, there was no line at IG and it seemed like it would be easier to get in.) This is the same day that the IG security made my grandmother get out of her wheelchair and shuffle through the metal detector while holding onto my dad. They told them she had no option. I wasn't with them, but they told me about it later. I would have asked for a wand check or at the least to see a supervisor.

The second day we went into the IG at RD there was also a line. We went up to the side to the front again to ask about bagless entry, and the guard told us to wait there. But he never let us in. We stood there for about five minutes wondering what to do. At that time I saw my parents and grandmother get to the end of the line, so I just went back with them. We walked through the bag line with no bags and headed to the metal detectors. Security decided to cut off the line for the detectors behind me, so DH and I had to go through the line, but the rest of our party did not. The problem with this was that my fingerprint is now tied to DD's entry since she had so many problems getting in to the parks after they instituted child finger scans. So my mom had to bring DD back to me and then DD went through the metal detector after me. It was a mess.

So, a big problem is the set-up. There's no actual bagless line, then everyone is sent to the left for the metal detectors creating gridlock, then there is a line at the tapstiles. I never saw more than four tapstiles operational during our entries. It was so chaotic that I really dreaded trying to enter there.

In contrast, the one day we entered Epcot from the main entrance, we just walked right in through the bagless line and didn't even have to go through the metal detectors. This was also our experience with main gate entry on two days at Epcot in June.

.

We were there in May and it seemed like there was very little space between the bag check and the metal detector. Don't know if there were changes since, but I can see gridlock quickly building up.
