Lots and Lots of Questions!

Hi, Tinker-tude!

I can't manage an ecv because the meds I take would make me a very unsafe driver. :) If it is too bouncy in the park we will just take breaks back at the hotel. We aren't the kind of people who rush around anyways...more of the sit back and people watch variety.

Thanks for the reassurances about the water taxis. I don't like to inconvenience other people and at the end of the day everyone is hot and tired. Plus with the buses at least, people don't understand that it is federal law to load wheelchairs and ecv's first.

Thanks again!

On the water taxis, they put a ramp down for wheelchair users, only a matter of them pushing you on, and you get to sit upfront with the Captain:cheer2:

The way I see it is if there are people on the water taxi that are upset about someone in a wheelchair take a min or so to load and can't wait should get off thier big behinds and walk cause there is no excuse for being uncaring and rude to a person that can't help it if they can't get in fast enough for them :headache:

::yes::

Thanks for the reassurances! Most people are wonderful. I suppose it is just human nature to remember the ones that aren't. :)

Although if I had a nickel for every time someone now in a wheelchair or ECV came up to me to and said how sorry they were that they had been impatient about wheelchairs/ECV's in the past and now they understood what a royal pain it is to have to use a wheelchair or ECV, I would have enough money for an extra night at the Royal Pacific Resort. :)

Is it a huge hassle to load wheelchairs onto the water taxis? Would it be easier for us to just walk? I hate it when we slow other people down. We seldom take the buses at WDW because people get so impatient with the wheelchair and I was wondering if loading the wheelchair on the water taxis was going to be an issue? If so, we will walk. Well, I'll roll and my spouse will walk/push. :)

No worries, it would only take a few seconds more. They can wait.;)
But if you do ever feel like taking the path(just to see it, fun) it only takes a few minutes to get to CityWalk.
Have fun.:thumbsup2

I agree they can waite. My mom was in a wheelchair for almost A year after a bad car wreck. We did WDW,BG,SW and US,just to get her out of the house.
We stayed @ Port Orleans for 2 days.We got some bad looks from people on the buses.Glad my DW talked me down.BG and SW they were pretty Kool about the sit.but they donn't have on-site trans. Then we did USF and stayed on-site for 2days(this time it was PBH)The boats were great, the captain helpful and evey1 was patient, not 1 bad look from any1.In fact they let here load 1st!!

I don't think most people really mean to be impatient. They are hot and tired and are probably not really thinking about much other than wanting to get into the bus and sit down. :) Most people are very decent and helpful. I think it is probably just human nature to remember the very few that aren't, so I am going to try and focus more on the positives and just ignore the very few negatives. :)

That's the best way to handle the situation.

i have taken the water taxi from rph to the park before and they handle wheelchair passengers quite well.

all able bodied passengers will enter the water taxi first.
the person in the wheel chair will enter last as they are on the even level to the boat ramp. the captain steers the boat at this level and guest are allowed to sit up there on the round/arched seats if no wheel chairs are there.

you will not have any problem using a wheel chair at the hotel, park, water taxi.

there are handicap accessible rooms at the hotel.

We just got back from RPR with my mom who is in a wheelchair. She did fine on the water taxis. Tower 3 is closest to the water taxi and Tower 1 is closest to the walking path.

My mom did say the roads got a little bumpy at the Studios near the mummy area and near the Amity area. She said the bridges were pretty rough too. Other than that she said she did fine.

Hope you have a wonderful time!!

Thanks for all of the information and reassurances! I am really looking forward to spending time at Universal on our next trip. We have a guaranteed roll-in shower room at Royal Pacific Resort and have requested a fridge for my medications. Everyone has been really decent to deal with.

Thanks again for the help!
