well for anyone who doesn't know me or remember me, I'm wdi2b (walt disney imagineering to be) and I joined these forums i think 4-6 years ago. I was very active for a year and then I left with the drive to become a mechanical engineer for Walt Disney Imagineering. For about 6 months I have a been a video game addict. why am i telling you this? because through this problem, I have lost the urge to become an imagineer, to build something that puts a smile on children's faces, to live my dream job. And that, my fellow disney fanatics, is why i am back. to refine my drive to become an imagineer.

how can you guys help? give me the best disney park trivia you know. that thing you tell your friends but they don't care. I do. Those little things that you know your the only one in the world who knows it, share it here. I want you guys to make me feel like I NEED to go to disneyland right now just to ride it's a small world. actually I'm off to WDW on saturday, so if your there for spring break and you want to show a fellow DISer through the new Fantasyland, I will appreciate it.

I want to see the disney magic again. Help me do so.

p.s. also I know there are a lot of disney moms on here. if your kids are playing videogames for more than 5 hours a day, they might have a future problem. i feel strongly about video game addiction after finding my dreams just fall away from me due to them.

Are you in a engineering college?

One thing I wonder, from satellite photos, is what Disney does at WDW with thier waste water.

On Recycle Way they don't just recylce, right next to that operation is thier waste water treatment. I wonder if they collect methane off gases to clean and sell as natural gas, or for heating or energy production.

That is where Disney would use more engineers than WDI. Because Imagineering outsources most of it's design engineering work.

Welcome back!!!! :) It's good to see you! Hopefully just being here will help your drive.

Thanks for the video game warning, my kids rarely play games daily let alone for that length of time, when they do it's a weekend or summer/spring break and they don't have anything else to do. We pay attention to that tho, we know it's an easy thing to have happen.

I'm currently at ASU studying mechanical engineering and planning on going to the disney college program in the fall. I've red up on just some audio animatronics being brought in, but the WDI is still in burbank :)

If you want to be an Imagineer that is one thing. If you just want to work for Disney as one, look at the facilities at the parks. Those chillers don't run themselves.

i definetely am shooting for imagineering. about 3 years i met Alice davis and she told me a good way to get in is just by getting my name into disney in general. the college program is mainly just to get my name in to get me where i want to go.

So first to scare you into doing it: I'm now in my mid 50s and my greatest regret is not following that same dream - now the best I think I can hope for is to retire and work at the park.
I suggest you subscribe to the Disney Career twitter feed - there are SO many cool jobs they post every day, as well as a bunch of internships for college students. Not all in imagineering of course - some at the studio, some in FL or even Seattle ( lots of IT there).
Good luck. Live my dream for me, will ya? :)

ummmmm this might make me sign up for Twitter.......LOL

Thought of something else that might inspire you - Bob Gurr (if it moves at DL he designed it!) has a new book coming out and while he's not exactly a mechanical engineer by degree he certainly is by reputation. He's a great guy and is very open to people as well - not sure how you might contact him for advice but maybe thru the emails he sends to people that purchase the book? There's a party for the book on May 18th but it's in Anaheim and may be out of a college student's price range at $55. I know he's also going to be at the NFFC/DisneyFan club show and sale in August or July where you could speak with him for just the $10 or so admission price.
The book is here:

The event is on the apepenpublishing web site - they also have a really nice interview dvd with Bob.
