OMG! I really thought Desmond was going to let Charlie die! I'm so glad he didn't.

Who do you think the girl is; An old girlfriend or maybe someone hired by Penny to find Desmond?

Ok, so this was before he met Penny. He dated that girl for 6 years, wow!

Now when was Desmond's time 'back' with Penny, where he thought he was home again? He was going to propose to Penny. Then he woke up back on the island naked right? Was that when the hatch exploded? Well, did anyone else see that woman from the store where he wanted to buy the engagement ring from in the picture on the monk's desk? She was in the photo with the monk. How interesting.

I never thought he'd let Charlie die.

Poor Katie.

I think that girl was sent to find Desmond. Why else would she have his picture.

I just finished watching...did y'all notice the framed photograph on the monk's desk when Desmond went to return his robe and say goodbye? It was a picture of the monk with the older lady who wouldn't give Desmond the engagement ring.

I never really thought it was going to be Penny. I can't even begin to guess who this woman might be. Poor Desmond.

I'm iffy about Charlie. I'm getting kinda tired of the he's gonna die, no he isn't routine.

Yes, Kate is a lucky, lucky girl!

I thought it was the girl from the flashback; the one he left when he went to the Abbey

That girl looked exactly like Walt's mom to me, but now that I'm typing this I remember she's dead. Nevermind I did notice the picture on the monk's desk, just saw white hair and that was my first thought- that she was the lady who wouldn't give him the ring.

Look at this picture. Its the photo that was on the Monks desk. It is Mrs. Hawking the lady that refused to sell Desmond the ring in his flashback. Also on another board there is a lot of discussion around the fact that some of Desmonds visions had Penny as the parachutist and that it changed from Penny to the Brazilian girl after Desmond saved Charlie. I am looking at some screen shots of the flashback and a couple of other clues to see if it really did change the identity of the new arrival on the island.

Yep, pretty sure he said, "if you wanted to use me, all you had to was ask" or something close to that

I am looking at some screen shots of the flashback and a couple of other clues to see if it really did change the identity of the new arrival on the island.

I thought the same thing. In fact, when they finally revealed the parachutist, my first thought was "Check the photo"! I want to see if it is still Penny in the picture they found in that book.

BTW, on the podcast with Damon and Carlton, they confirmed that Nikki and Paolo are indeed dead and buried. Just wanted to let everyone know, because there was some debate about that.

How could saving Charlie change the identity of the parachutist, though? She had already fallen before they set off into the jungle. I can see how saving him could change future events that were supposed to happen afterwards, but how could it change the past?

Not saying it wouldn't on the Lost island -- stranger things have happened there, but really, it makes no sense.

I think Desmond thought it was Penny because of the photo in the flashes but he never actually saw Penny in any of the flashes so...I don't think saving Charlie changed the visitor from Penny to the new girl. I do believe that the idea of this paradox will drive Desmond crazy, "if he hadn't saved Charlie would it be Penny?" Etc.

I noticed the old lady from Desmond's previous episode in that picture -- you could tell they were trying to show something significant from the way the camera panned by it so I played it in slow motion to see it.

I liked the episode, but I'm fairly confused by it. At first I mistook that parachutist for Desmond's ex-fiancee from earlier in the episode, but now it seems she's part of Penny's search team.

I didn't get why Desmond said that he was "supposed to let Charlie die this time." Aren't all of his visions showing Charlie dying and he ends up saving him? What was to be different about this time? I agree with the posters above who say it doesn't make sense that it would have changed the identity of the parachutist, because she fell before the events took place.

Finally, why was this episode called "Catch-22?" Simply because she had the book? I was expecting to see some sort of catch-22 yet there was none that I could tell.

Even though both of those actors are really hot.. I still get grossed out during sex scenes thinking about how stinky they must be---bad breath, too....
