LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

I wonder if the "box" has something to do with the smoke monster? Since people have seen things in the smoke about their lives. I wonder if it's sort of the "box" gone bad or something?

Damon and Carlton said we saw the smoke monster a few times and had no idea that we saw it. I think the theory at there (especially after Eko's episode when speaking to Yemi) is that the "smoke" can take certain forms. So in this case it would be Locke's dad, and previously Yemi, Kate's horse, Jack's dad, etc.

It seems like a stretch, BUT the sound of the door screeching open did sound eerily like the sound when ol' smokey appears.

I think it was a little of both. I don't think he knew exactly why Ben was letting him do it, but he was so focused on the task that he didn't care. But Ben did tell him that Jack was taking the boat and not coming back, so he should've been smart enough to sort of figure it out.

The whole thing between Alex warning Locke then Locke turning to blame Ben. . . I'm wondering if Locke's playing a bit of a game. He clearly wanted to blow up the sub before Ben said a word and nothing really happened between the explosion and being locked up to make him change his mind on whether it was a good idea or not. I wonder if this is Locke sorta conning everyone else. He can be as destructive as he wants and turn around and play the victim. I wonder if he's manipulating the manipulators at this point. Letting them get comfortable "controlling" him by a little subtle persuasion and meanwhile he's learning as much as he can and he'll turn around and catch them offguard.

I don't see Locke's dad as being in the same category as those. One reason, because others can see him. I think we'll either find that his plane didn't make it to Mexico, or somehow he found himself lost on a boat, or that Ben went out and hunted him down to use as leverage, because he knew he needed to bargain with John.

I tend to think it's a more realistic explanation like that as well. Just throwing that theory out there since it's a pretty popular one. The whole smokey thing just bothers me. They said from the beginning that everything has a realistic explanation when all is said and done and I can't think of a scenario where smoke monster would be realistic, LOL. I'm hoping they do something creative with it, I'm not a fan of this theory. . .a little too Harry Potter for me.

And what exactly is wrong with Harry Potter? Hmmmmm?????? ;)

Nothing at all! I love Harry Potter! Just that whole boggart/shapeshifting thing isn't exactly realistic if that's what the powers that be at Lost are going for, haha.

Oh yeah about..."the box." Are we talking about an actual BOX or some sort of metaphor? That would explain how things that people were thinking about seemed to "appear" (the polar bear, the horse, Jack's dad).

I tend to think Locke's dad IS the smoke monster/box thing. More than one person saw the polar bear and Kate's horse (I'm pretty sure Sawyer saw the horse, didn't he?). Ben spent a lot of time talking to Locke about his dad and then poof! his dad magically appears. I'm betting smoke monster rather than dad in the flesh.

Kind of neat that now Alex knows her mother is alive. Hopefully she'll try to get close to Sayid (and maybe even free him) to find out more.

It'll be very interesting to see the fallout from Locke blowing up the submarine. So Jack and Juliet can't get back to the "real" world. (and would Jack have sent back help if he did get away?) Jack's going to be really ticked off at Kate since he told her not to try to rescue him. WAS the submarine the Others' only way off the island? Are their communications really destroyed? If they have that whole compound protected by that sonic fence, why would they have their only communications equipment in Patchy's house OUTSIDE the fence??

The previews kind of flashed by me so fast.......one of the Losties has been an Other this whole time? Sun finds out that Charlie and Sawyer were behind her abduction?

Okay, CBS made me miss Lost last night. They put Survivor on and I thought it was fricken Thursday- so I didn't watch Lost because Lost is on Wednesdays :confused3 OMG!!! Does anyone think that Locke's dad is REALLY there? For some reason I don't think it's the smoke, because Ben said "go get the man from Tallahasse." It sounded to me like he's actually on the island.

All righty, I'm just watching the episode again, trying to answer some questions I had. One thing I've noticed: when Lock is trying to leave w/Alyx to blow up the submarine, Ben tells him not to bother. He tells him that Jack is leaving on the sub and that it's a "one way ticket", that since the anomaly (sp?) they have had NO contact with the outside world. If that's the case then how have they gotten the info on all our folks? They would have had to know all of the info before the plane crashed! So, either Ben is lying or?
Questions, questions, always more questions....

I believe they were speaking about the Communications "Hatch" being blown up by Locke's chess game.

ETA: Either that or the implosion of the Swan Hatch.

But haven't they used the word anomaly before? oooh, I think you may be right, I think it may have been used to describe the purple sky, etc when Lock blew up the hatch...

I also think the "anomaly" is when the hatch blew up. I wonder if that's why Ben isn't healing.

Yep - when they refer to the anomaly, it was when the hatch blew up. They had plenty of time (2 months) to gather information on the survivors.

I had a thought earlier. Last night was the 2nd (at least) time Ben mentioned being born on the island. I think that has to be very important - especially the way he said it last night, something in his voice seemed to be a red flag from the powers that be saying "pay attention!!" Since we know they're not at all uncomfortable with abducting children (infants in the case of Alex), I wonder what the chances are that Ben is actually the child of "Adam and Eve" since we're told that the show will wrap up with something that the earlier Adam and Eve scenes will prove they had it planned all along.

I just found this thread as I have been reading the other....I dont really know where to begin with this show.....I am at a lost....i will say the episodes have gotten much better....as far as theorys.....I have none

There's another theory that the Others are the Losties in the future. And that Ben is Aaron. I'm not sure that works with any other timelines though.

Another thing...if Ben would have healed before the "anomoly," would he have gotten the tumor at all? If not, then he wouldn't have even needed the "coincidence" of a doctor falling out of the sky. One thing feeds into the other...it's all confusing.

Wow, I didn't even think that Ben could be Aaron. Maybe that's how he knows so much about the Losties. It's sort of like Desmond knowing what's going to happen before it happens. Like people have said, Ben has said twice already that he was born on the island and then you have Hurley saying to Sayid, when they got that song on the radio, when that song may have been played, but then he brushed it off saying he was just kidding, hmmmm:scratchin
