Op, good luck job searching. teacher03, the catholic school next to my childhood home closed, and my alma mater, luther North high school in chicago is in danger of closing. it's really a shame.

That is what I mentioned too. In our district it is a series of bumping until there is no one left to bump... I only have 2 years exp. and fear everytime something comes up that I will get bumped. And being that I work in a not so good district, there aren't many schools I would even be willing to go to without a personal police officer to escort me. Meaning if it happens to me, I would just be out a job because my safety comes first.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I was told that teachers without tenure cannot bump--though I think there has been some past practice, so I plan to investigate. Things got kind of ugly this week when I questioned some people's "magical movement" on the seniority list--from below me to above me in one year--more magical than Disney! At 45, I am naive and honest-- not a good combination in a political minefield. I am out of my league. I will keep you posted.

Still hoping for the best for you. They are about to lay off a lot of people in our school system at the end of this year...yet, "they" continue to fund large scholarships for future teachers (My niece was just presented with one for the fall....)

I just wanted to send you hugs from a fellow teacher.

Be strong, ask questions, talk to your union reps (if you have a strong union). Stand up for yourself especially if there is some funny stuff going on as to seniority.

God Luck OP - I hope everything works out for you and your family. I know how tough this can be - DH lost his job in October (still looking). You feel like you;ve been kicked in the gut and never had a chance to defend yourself...

To the OP, I hope everything works out for you!!! We are still waiting to find out what happens where I teach. If they do a reduction in force, they will let all first and second year teachers go (that's what I've been hearing). It breaks my heart because they will be letting go some of the best teachers I have ever met!!!

OP here with an update: a few people in my system with actual clout think something is fishy with me getting the slip instead of a colleague, so all is not lost. I have an HR meeting this week. Thanks for all the kind wishes and prayers-- I will keep you posted.

Got my teaching job back today!! It's a long ugly story, with all kinds of accusations made against me, but I am so grateful to still have a job that I'm sure I can rise above it. Thanks for all the DIS support! Now I can plan my next trip to WDW!
