Lost my Salem today...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you for sharing.

Peg, I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of Kitty. It just aches our hearts and takes a part of us with them. I sit here looking at my 16 yr old and remember when he was my kitten amoung the rest. Now the old man.

I lost three the last three years, and am fearing the loss of each one left. Sending hugs to you.
Di

I'm glad that she didn't suffer (at least not visibly, cats are so hard to figure out sometimes) but it's still so hard to lose a pet so quickly. My condolences.

I'm so sorry, it hurts so much to lose them.

I'm sure she will hold a special spot in your heart forever.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of a beloved member of the family.

Such a sad loss. I am so sorry.

Awwww, I am so sorry to hear the news.

In 2009 we lost our 16 1/2 year old doggie to a brain tumor. I'm still not over it - I don't think I ever will be. It is just dh and myself and she was my baby and best friend.

It is so hard.....

I had my beautiful cat, Salem, for sixteen wonderful years. She was a funny cat. She really didn't like many people. She wasn't even that crazy about my daughter, but she loved me. I think she had great taste! :goodvibes

For the first time in 30 years, I have no pets. With my daughter in England, the house is so quiet.

So sorry for your loss and the sadness that you are feeling. My cat is the same way - not fond of other people, and he hides from kids, but he loves me and is my spoiled boy. I almost lost him to a serious virus about a year ago, and I cried many tears, as I will when he really does go. Know that many DIS friends are sending thoughts of comfort to you as you deal with this grief.

So sorry to hear about Salem. Even though you might be all alone for the first time, just remember your DIS friends are always right here!

I'm so very sorry. I know it hurts so much to lose a beloved pet. I had a similar experience with my housecat a few years ago. Actually she started out as a barn cat (we live on a farm) but she was just so sweet and loving that I occasionally let her in the house, and after she had her litter of kittens in the house, on my old bathrobe, I didn't have the heart to put her back outside so she became an indoor cat and I had her for over 10 years. But one day she was leaking urine so I took her to the vet, they couldn't find anything wrong, said it must be a behavior issue. A couple of days later she couldn't control her back legs so I took her back to the vet, turned out she had an inoperable tumor on her spine. :( It was heartbreaking so I understand what you're going through. It is not easy at all.

sorry for the loss of your pet. 16 years is a long time, lots of love there.

So sorry to hear about Salem, Peg. We're getting to that point with our pets as well. Not something I look forward to. Lost one last spring, the dog doesn't have many months left, another cat is getting up there in years. So sad when we lose them.
Might be time for a kitten???

Awfully sorry to hear about Salem Peggy. Hang in there.
