I hope someone here can help me. I lost a frosting recipe that my Grandmother used to make.

You cook flour, butter and milk to make a white sauce. You let it cool and then beat in sugar and maybe some vanilla. I think that is all the ingedients.

Does this sound familiar to anyone???? She used to put it on spice cake. I'm making one this afternoon and would love the recipe if anyone has it.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!

No, I'm sure there is flour in it. I know it seems strange but it makes the best frosting.

I recently read something like this while looking for cupcake recipes. There was one frosting where you had to cook part of the ingredients before making the final product. Of course, I'll never find it. I am unsure about the flour part though.

Since the DISers helped you so quickly, maybe they can help me...

I had a recipe card (from a free trial offer sort of thing) that had an amazing tomato soup. I lent it to someone and never saw it again. It was so thick and creamy. It had whole tomatoes and sour cream. I can't really remember much more of it now, but it was super duper thick, almost chewy. Does that ring a bell for anyone?

I think that's it!!! Thanks sooo much. I knew my DIS friends would come through.

It's so good - you should try it.

That's the one I make too. I frost my dark chocolate cake with it (the one you make with coffee...mmmmm!)

Hope this helps. This is the one Frosting recipe my friends request and the one my grandmother used for her Graham Cracker cake. It's very good.

Cooked Cream Frosting:
1 cup milk, 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract or grated lemon rind
1/2 lb. butter,

Combine the milk and flour and blend until smooth. Cook over low heat, stirring all the time, until as thick as pudding. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Cream the butter until light and fluffy. Add to the cooled pudding and blend thoroughly. Gradually beat in sugar and flavoring used. Beat with an electric mixer until it is spreading consistency about 10 - 15 minutes.

Hmm, I'll have to plan some baking time soon. :rotfl2:
