My dh has just found out over the last few days that he has lost the pink photo card of his driving licence, and we go to florida in 3 weeks.
he is going to apply for a duplicate but i have heard that there is a back log and it may take weeks to come through.
my question is do we definetly need the 2 parts of the driving licence and how can i kill him slowly :furious:

Yes you definitely need the photcard part as that shows the entitlement to drive. It may be an idea to put a covering letter in explaining you are off on holiday soon to see if that speeds things up.

Claire ;)

yes definatly both parts are needed,

a few weeks ago I discovered I had left chriss in the states lol, so we had to get him a new one it only took a week,

I shall ask my district manager for advice on how to kill a daft husband.....

She, her DH & DD were 1 day away from 10 days in Lanzarote & her DH admitted he couldnt find their passports anywhere but had a vague (and true) recollection of throwing them in the bin!

Sorry to hear of your DH's mishap.
About 10 years ago, we were checking in for our hire car, and my DH said he'd forgotten his licence! They wouldn't accept a fax or anything. I drove for the two weeks - which doesn't bother me, thankfully.
Hope you get things sorted - at least he's told you before you go!!
Fingers crossed!
Tracy

I had to replace my DH licence and i done it over the phone and paid by debit card and the licence arrived within the week.

This discussion about the photo style licence makes me want to ask if the old style is still acceptable over there. I assume it is but just want to be sure. Thanks.

I'd look into this further because I seem to think they want photo ID :confused3

Can you change the old style one before you go?

I have the old style and have never had any problems, providing the date is valid you will be fine.

It is only if you need a replacement or a new one that you would get one with a photo on.

Unless there has been a change from last August....maybe someone who has been recently can confirm?

One year whilst picking up our car from the Dollar Comfort Inn depot, we got into the wrong car, we quickly realised when it wouldn't start !! We found our car eventually. The next morning before hitting the shops we realised that DH license was missing, we hunted the room and eventually returned to Dollar in case we had left it on the desk or something. It was quite early in the morning, so the desk hadn't opened. We walked round to the car that we had mistaken for ours and DH license was on the passenger seat - must have fallen from his pocket. The mental part was that the car was open, so we just got his license and drove off - secure or what !! :confused3

I think they are only strict about having photo ID when it comes to drinking, i know when we were out there in May they wouldnt accept an old style driving licence as proof of age!

Old style paper licence is fine.

They will accept any valid licence and the old sytle is still a valid UK licence.

I have phoned dvla this morning and he can pay for the duplicate with a debit card over the phone. so i just hope that it will get here in time for our hols, fingers crossed for us!!

He has phoned up and ordered a duplicate one :teeth: the woman said it should arrive here within 3-5 days!! well we'll wait and see if it does!
