OK, well since you two have my back

I'd like to discuss the movie a little more.
I think it's definitely a chick flick. DH came into the room when it was about halfway through and kept asking when it would be over

. Although, if I was a guy and my SO made me look at Aishwarya Rai for 111 minutes, I can't say I'd complain.
I thought the writers and directors did a good job of following the story of P&P with a modern/Indian twist. I just can't get past the casting of Mr. Darcy. He was just awful and not believable at all. I know this movie wasn't meant to be an exact copy of the original, but the characters should have the same feeling to them. I didn't think there was any chemistry between him and Aishwarya Rai, either.
Speaking of Aishwarya Rai, I initially thought she was a strange choice for Elizabeth Bennet because she is so beautiful, but her acting made her believable.
I watched parts of it (particularly the beginning dance number) a few more times today and I'm still loving Naveen in this movie. He was perfectly cast. I also can't get that song out of my head. I've been walking around singing it all morning.
Other standouts besides Naveen: the mother!! She was perfect! The cousin (did you see him in the outtakes at the very end in the THONG

) , and Naveen's sister who played the part with just enough snobbiness and had THE BEST lines in the movie.
I haven't seen The English Patient, but I'm going to rent it next.
A note to Naveen fans: he and Aishwarya Rai have filmed another movie together called Provoked. From imdb: Plot Outline: It's the true story of a Punjabi woman named Kiranjit Ahluwalia who leaves India to marry a London-based guy, only to be badly abused. She ends up in prison for murdering her abusive husband.
Just from looking at character names, I'd guess Naveen is the abusive husband. It sounds good to me. He's also filming The Ten Commandments, which will be a TV miniseries.
