I also had the problem of my Tivo cutting off before the ending so I did not get to see the previews for next week.
I had this problem two weeks ago. Go into your season pass settings and set the Tivo to record for two minutes longer and you shouldn't have any more trouble.

I saw this on another board and thought it would be of interest for all of you who were recording "Lost."

LOST show timing - and why you're missing those last minutes

In the old days it was simple. A show scheduled from 8-9PM actually ran from 8 to about 8:58 PM. Then came the local commercials and station ID up until exactly 9 PM when the next show started. It was that way for years - simple and unviolable.

Back in the greedy '90s, someone at some network decided that if they moved the station break to around :45, they could run the 8 o'clock show right into the 9 o'clock show with no breaks at all - NO TIME TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL! Surely you'd be hooked into the 9 o'clock show and just stay tuned for the whole night.

Next, I believe it was NBC that decided to skew some of the timings of its Thursday shows. By letting FRIENDS run a little long - sy until 8:32 or :33, they could actually increase the number of commercial units they could sell to advertisers at a premium. The commercials would BE WITHIN FRIENDS. So even though the show was still timed to be a half-hour, they simply ran MORE commercials, making the show run late. These extra commercial minutes are "borrowed" from the show that follows, meaning that half-hour show will have fewer commercials. And since they couldn't get the higher price-rates for those anyway, it's more beneficial to them to stick them in the FRIENDS block and make more money.

The opposite happened at 10:00. E.R. was also a big hit, so in order not to run into the affilliates' newscasts, they started E.R. at about 9:58 or 9:59 PM, again giving them that extra minute or two WITHIN E.R. that they could sell at a premium.

It's all about money these days.

So now that ABC has a hit with LOST, we're discovering that they aren't confining themselves to one hour. Over the last few weeks, since it's been deemed a hit, the show regularly runs past 9:00 (ET), usually until about 9:02.

So for those of you setting timers out there to record the show, you'd so yourselves a favor by allowing a few extra minutes past 9 to get the whole thing. The time prior to the show belongs to the local affiliates, so you're not going to be in danger of the show starting early. It will normally start exactly at 8. It's the ending past 9 that seems to be causing the problems.

I have another question, did Stephen King have anything to do with this series, it looks like something he would write........

I look forward to Weds nites for lost!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone see Terry O' Quinn, aka Locke on the premier of West Wing the other night? It was a small military officer role but I was shocked to see him! I'm liking his character more and more...he definitely makes things interesting.

Loved this week's episode! I didn't know what to think about the empty coffin but I'm leaning towards the airline loading an empty coffin to appease Jack. I couldn't believe we didn't see/hear anything of the monster with Locke and Jack running all over the place this week! I was really tense the entire time!

And a little off topic, but Stephen Culp, who plays the husband of the perfect wife on "Desperate Housewives" played the Speaker of the House on West Wing.

I've been doing this for years because the clock on my VCR always seemed to be a little off. I just figured it was better to use a little more tape and get all of the show. I could always record over whatever came after later.

I love the Locke character too! Must say that he is my favorite as he is the one that intrigues me the most.

My take on LOST

I believe that the island is their dreams and fears. They see what they desire to see ,the dead dad in the suit, the paralyzed man is no longer paralyzed.
Fears...the unseen 'monster'.

Their desires and fears are exaggerated and become real to them on the island.

Ok help me understand this:

If the older man (i cannot think of his name) went in the jungle and saw the creature in front of him then how come the creature did not eat him up and why did the old man say I saw a beautiful thing in the forest to the Doctor. Why did he not tell anyone he saw the creature. I mean he did see something and that something ate the pilot.

I love this show also:teeth:
As someone else speculated (I didn't come up with this). The "creature" really isn't a creature after all. That these people are really dead and the creature is thier individual "demon" or "worst fear". So it could be that whatever Locke saw, he was able to confront it and get past it. Of course, I would think that he would then be able to pass onto to the other side and his character would "die", but that didn't happen.

We probably need to all stop guessing what it is because I'm sure we're just not even close.

I saw Terry on the West Wing last season. He was also in the movie Young Guns.

I also noticed Stephen Culp on the second season of 24 and DH said that he was on Star Trek Enterprise for a few episodes.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that the guy who plays Walt's Dad played Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet (the one with Leo DiCaprio). I don't have a name credit to prove that though.

Ah, maybe that's where I've seen him before. He seems familiar to me. Of course, it's way to early in the morning to do a google search.......I'll need more coffee before I give that a try.

Loving this show!

Terry O'Quinn had a recurring role on season 2 of Alias. So does Greg Grunberg, the dead pilot. If you like this show, you should also check out the Alias DVD's. Some of the same themes run through that show. It has quite a bit of mysticism, lots of early clues that seem insignificant at the time, stuff that you just don't see coming. Wonder if JJ uses some of the same writers? Alias is supposed to be back in January.

Walt's dad is Mercutio - TWOP confirmed it during the pilot.

It's funny you mention Steve Culp. O'Quinn and Culp are character actors that seem to show up all over the palce these days. Culp has had regular roles a CIA agent on JAG (funny how they show up on the same shows), on Enterprise as a miltary officer who was killed near the end of last season and on ER as Alex Kingston's boyfriend. Te role that o'Quinn was in last night on West Wing is a role he has held for a while and has appeared on a few episodes. I don't know if I would call it a small military role (unless you are referring to his appearances, not his rank), since he is a general on the show. He has also had a regular role on Alias.

Actually isn't Lost and lias produced by the same person? I read that Grunberg wa a childhood friend and has appeared on a number of is shows. I have seen certain characters show up on different shows by the same producer. I guess they are a known quantity and there is probably a certain amount of loyalty involved.

Bumping just to let y'all know that they are showing the last 2 episodes right now (8pm sat)

:( Not here in Miami, they are showing "For a few dollars More!

Who died in last week's episode? I heard someone died and we missed half of it? Was it the black woman?? I didn't see her this week, so I was thinking she died.

She was an unknown character. They said something about her being a scuba diver and she went for a swim and got caught in a riptide. Jack went out to save her but found the brother first who was struggling so Jack brought him back. The girl was really far out and he didn't think he could make it. Jack was really upset that he didn't even know who the girl was. The brother later blamed Jack for not saving her.
