hi

losing your child on hol must be your worst nightmare. i have read various threads about tagging you kids in various ways. i found a site which sell quite cool id bracelets and wondered if anyone has used them.

http://identifyme.co.uk/cart/showprod.php?id=127

this is the product i was interested in. i wondered if anyone has used it? what was it like? also how many waterproof id strips would i need for a two week trip? would one last two weeks? or would i have to change them daily?

if anyone has any feedback on this i would greatly appreciate it.

love

Hi there Lucy,

I have never used these, but what I have done in all the parks is make sure my children know and understand that if we are separated (hasn't ever happened yet) they go STRAIGHT to a CM and tell them they are lost.

Of course, this depends on how old your children are! I appreciate if your's are young they wouldn't be able to do this :)

Cheers

Karen

they are 9 and 5 so its very resonable for them to do this. i just wanted extra precautions in place

thanks

We have always told our kids to tell someone in uniform that they are lost. We also arange a simple-to-find place to meet if we get separated.

We've always promised them that if they get lost we'll always pick them up on the way to the airport:)

We always told our children to go to someone working at a cash register because they are store related. This works well in malls where uniforms are not the norm.

You can get "Tag your toddler" tags from branches of Lunn Poly and Nationwide. Its a scheme run by GMTV and I think there is more info on their website.

From the age of 2, I made sure my DD knew how to recognise a CM (oval badge) and also the tip to go into a store and straight to the check out is a good one. Especially as its one of the easiest places to lose a child. For older children who are allowed to the toilet on their own, be aware that some toilets in the parks have TWO exits, so its very easy to get confused and "lose" a child this way. Apparantly, WDW has a very good system for tracking lost children, so if you do lose your child inform a CM at once and they put a code out to ALL CMs in the park to be on the look out for your child.

Once lost DD in Matalan and it was the worst 5 minutes of my life. She was making her way back to the car (accross a busy road) and fortunately a very kind lady brought her back into the store. I still have nightmares about this....I blame DH totally, as he was meant to be with her, but "assumed" she was with me. We didnt talk for weeks!! Im very aware now, and NEVER assume someone else is looking out for her. I used reins till she was about 3!!

even though my dd is 9 i wouldnt let her go into a public toilet on her own anywhere. ill check out those tags at lunn poly nationwide. thanks for the advice

also I read somewhere (if you know a nurse) to ask for some of the hospital tags they give to you when your admitted into hospital. These are secure and can be filled in with the appropriate information. Just an idea.

I have used those from www.identifyme.co.uk, they were great - I hired a mobile phone and wrote that number on one side of the ID strip and the hotel/motel details on the other.

I have also used their disposable ones too and I know they deliver worldwide coz a stateside friend recommended them.

The thing I really liked about them was that all the information is kept inside. I hate the thought of the kids details being on show. Also my eldest daughter is diabetic and there was space on the disposable one's to write down her medical information.

Hth.
