Hi everyone! I'm helping my friend plan her Sept trip to the World w/ her DH, DS5 & DS3. Both boys are extremely busy & she's worried about them running off, and getting lost. (There's only so many hours a toddler can sit in a stroller!!) :yay: :yay:

She mentioned seeing a child at SeaWorld, who had on a special bracelet. This bracelet had the parents' names & cell phone numbers on it. Do any of you know about this, or where to find it?

If not, do you have any other suggestions for her? We talked about writing her name & # in their shirts, or putting it in their pockets. Any advice would be appreciated!!

We got the silicone bracelets that we had engraved with our last name, cell phone numbers and our resort on them. The print was small enough that you couldn't read it without looking at it really close. If you want the website I ordered from, send me a pm. They are really cheap and have lots of colors to pick from. There is even youth sizes. My 6 year old DS wore his around his wrist and my 3 year old DD wore hers around her ankle.

I also know a lot of people get a dog tag made up (Petco, Pet Supplies Plus have them) but I don't know how they wear them

The best advice I ever heard...well two...get the engavable dog tags from Walmart to put info on or just write your info on their arms with a marker. The marker is a little much for me...but the dog tags can go on a necklace or attach to shoes or get a hook for pants.

I know it sounds bad, but we're leashing our 2 year old.

Heh. I know. But it isn't as bad as when we leashed our DS when he was 18 months old. DS2 is going to wear a backpack that has a monkey on it. The tail is really long and mom or dad can wear it around their wrist.

I'd rather him look ridiculous than be lost.

Wow, thanks! I never thought of the dog tags. I'm gonna do that for my DD7 & DS4.

I'm thinking she might have called a company about the silicone bracelets, & it was too small for DS3's arm?? But, the ankle idea would be great, especially if they're only wearing crocs. I'm going to pm you about that one!

I don't think the leashes are bad at all....it's way better than looking back, saying "shoulda, coulda, but didn't." You've gotta do what keeps your family safe!

And, I LOVE the tottoos idea! Whoever thought of that is a genius!

Please keep anymore suggestions coming. Thanks!

I saw some kids with address labels stuck to the backs on their shirts last time I was there. It looked a little weird, but I"m sure it would have worked well if they had gotten lost. The little boy even had food allergies and his mom had noted that on his tag as well. I haven't out any ID on my DS at WDW yet, but I like the sounds of those bracelets. I may look into those!

My wife just told me that our friend actually writes on their kid's arms...cell number. I'm not sure what she uses...

When we go we just take a sharpie and write on their ankle (under their sock so you can't even see it unless you need to. ) we don't have to worry about it washing off or being uncomfortable to wear. We write our cell # their and tell them if they get seperated to look for a CM (we show them what they look like) preferably one in a store or at a stand and tell them to call their mom & dad. Thank God we haven't had to use this but it helps put my mind at ease. When we go later this year we will have an 18 month old and I think we will do the monkey back pack thing also. I don't care if it looks silly to some. Everyone who has a child understands.

We used the silicone bracelets as well. Dd(6yo) wore hers on her wrist and ds(2yo) wore his on his ankle.

I prefer these to the other suggestions... dog tags on the neck can get hot or caught on something, shoe ids only work if wearing laced or velcroed shoes (not crocs)...and most of all, I prefer not setting a precedent w/ my 2yo by writing on his arm/leg/ankle w/ a marker!

The silicone bracelets aren't expensive at all and the kids wore them just fine. We actually went to a crowded local museum this past weekend and used them there too!

Ds also used the monkey backpack. He looked like he was wearing lederhosen in all our photos, but he's a bolter so we were all happier w/ him secured!

That's funny you say that! My friend did mention writing the info on her boys, but we thought it might rub/wash off? But, the sharpie would definitely take care of that. :thumbsup2

Like Minnie Mouse07 said, this might start a whole chain reaction none of us want to deal with later! I can just see them, "Well, Mommy, I wrote on his forehead with a sharpie, because I didn't want him to get lost when he goes to the grocery store or school or church!" :scared1:

I guess if a sharpie is the only precaution option you have, then who cares!?! I would definitely scribble on my kiddos if it would help at WDW!:rotfl:

The only thing we have not liked about the silicone braclets, and the reason we are not going that route, is my children sweat, a lot, and they have complained about the braclets in the past. They are a great idea and would love to use them.

Oh, I forgot one more idea is a luggage tag attached to pants...which won't work if they dont' have belt loops.

In the end...I love the leash. I have a reformed runner. I have lost him everywhere and it drives me INSANE!!!! Now that he is 4 he has gotten better. It was just hard for me because the older two NEVER did that! Good luck to your friend!

Hello,

We have used this bracelets. I like the fact you have replacable insets so you can change the information.

We also are using a leash for our daughter (2 1/2). I bought a real cute one from Walmart ($10) that is like a dog backpack. My daughter actually doesn't mind it at all because she can walk next to us.

Knowing my 2 year old, the reason he would try to get lost is to take the thing off of his foot. We can barely keep his shoes on him. I can picture him hiding out, taking off his shoes, socks, and that bracelet and running to the closest place with food.

We were just there a few weeks ago...I went to Home Depot and got the Mickey Head paint samples cut them out, wrote our info..cell # resort (but not their names') laminated it, punched a hole in it, attached it to a lanyard hook and hooked it to my girls' belt loop on their pants..
Just another option...

You are all so creative!! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to see which idea she chooses. (And the lucky winner is.......) :rotfl:

BTW, ninety-seven...that's hilarious! Your DS2 sounds as mischievous as my DS4 (almost 5.) Of course, I've been known to run towards food at WDW myself. :rotfl2:

Yeah, it works great for us because they know not to mess with sharpies. They are 7 and 9 now. If you are worried about them doing that I would just keep the sharpies where they can't get to them and explain why you are doing it.

can I add a tip??
this works if you have a camera cell phone or a digital camera
A CM at Disney told me that when you get to the park take a pic of your child/ children with a digital camera- that way if they get lost CM's can see what the kids look like. it is better than trying to remember what she was wearing that day.

We have used the Paint chip idea and laminated it and pin it to DD's lanyard on the back so you can't the see the info from the front.
