Lost Child at WDW?

I know it sounds bad, but we're leashing our 2 year old.

Heh. I know. But it isn't as bad as when we leashed our DS when he was 18 months old. DS2 is going to wear a backpack that has a monkey on it. The tail is really long and mom or dad can wear it around their wrist.

I'd rather him look ridiculous than be lost.

we did this for our youngest who is 4 and special needs. We got him the one that looked like a puppy. He named him and everything. It made us feel so much better. Also we found the characters (especially Chip and Dale) really had fun with him too.

When we go back I am REALLY liking the idea of the tottoos- my kids love the fake tattoos so I think they would like those. Like one poster said- anything is better than looking back and wondering "what if?"

When we went with dd she was just barely over 2 but was not one to run off, then!! Plus she rode in the stroller a lot and it was Sept so not busy at all. Now she runs off all the time and got lost in Target after running around the purse racks three she did not circle around so I worried and found security in front and they called out their silent alarm to the teams to look for her. They found her pretty quick and 2 ladies shopping came up with the employee saying she was very calm and saying she lost her mommy. It was scary but the sad thing is she still runs off now. :sad2: We talk about it repeatedly before going anywhere. So I guess I'll be more worried about it on our next trip.

I did a 5K where they wanted the parents name and cell on a label on their shirt. It works out great. I had even showed her what the workers/volunteers shirts looked like so she could find one if she got lost.

Thank goodness for those leashes i used one with my dd! i had gotten the elmo one at walmart and my mil stitched mickey on it for me! :)

There are so many good ideas in this thread!

Hello,

We have used this bracelets. I like the fact you have replacable insets so you can change the information.

We also are using a leash for our daughter (2 1/2). I bought a real cute one from Walmart ($10) that is like a dog backpack. My daughter actually doesn't mind it at all because she can walk next to us.

We just bought these as well !!!!

We use the ID inside bracelet for our DD as well. We got it when DD was about 2 years old. And when we go in October, I will buy one for my then-19-month-old daughter as well. They work really well for us. You can change the info inside. And the band seems comfortable to my daughter. We explained to her that if she ever got lost, to go up to a CM and show him her bracelet. Thankfully, she's never had to do that LOL! I always worry that she will be too shy (because she is extremely shy) or will freak out when she cant find us.....plus, at almost 4 years old, her speech is still not very clear. I'm afraid that a CM wouldnt be able to understand her if she did get the guts to go up to them. So pretty much I just try to hold onto her at every possible moment LOL! Thankfully she is not a wanderer.

i made lanyards for everyone to wear & the front was Dis-mom, Dis-dad....but on the back it had our cell # & resort , last name

I also want to let a bunch of you know...that from what i heard you can go to city hall at the MK(im sure they have this at every park) & tell them you have a littel one & are concerned about them wandering off....from what i was told they give you a "card or paper" & if the kid gets lost you tell any CM & they radio ahead to the gates & the park goes on a temp lockdown until the kid is found

heres an article(it says disneyland, but im sure wdw has it too)

and heres a little more info
Make sure your child knows what to do if he/she gets lost - tell them that cast members wear name badges, & to go to one of them immediately if he/she gets lost; or for older kids arrange a place to meet if they get lost. It's a good idea to write down the child's name, any medical problems, your name & resort, on a piece of paper, which you can then either laminate or put in one of those clear plastic badges. You can then either pin it to the child's clothes, or out it in his/her pocket/bag.

Disney has special name tags for very young children. Guests can get them at - City Hall or Baby Care Centre (Magic Kingdom); Guest Relations or Baby Care Centre (Epcot); Guest Relations (MGM & Animal Kingdom).

If you do lose your child, report to Guest Relations/City Hall, Baby Care Centre, or tell a Cast Member.

We were just there a few weeks ago...I went to Home Depot and got the Mickey Head paint samples cut them out, wrote our info..cell # resort (but not their names') laminated it, punched a hole in it, attached it to a lanyard hook and hooked it to my girls' belt loop on their pants..
Just another option...

This is really important. If you attach there name to the id then someone could pick them up and take thm without them saying to much since "they know my name" My husband is law enforcement and we are firm believers of not having our childs name on anything she is wearing. I will put my cell number or food allergies but not her name nor our last name. It isn't safe. JMO

I have gone to WDW many times with no other adult, just DD5 and me! I always wrote my cell on her body somewhere with a sharpie marker, worked great!! JMHO why waste money on ordering tatoos when u can use a sharpie and spend that $ on a mickey bar!!:rotfl:

That's a good point. Never thought of it. What would you write on the bracelet? If lost Call: # ??
I'm thinking of ordering the silicone braclet.

We ordered our silicone bracelets from sharene, spend less than $12 for four of them (one set for back up!), including shipping. They arrived really fast too.

I got ones w/ engraving on the front and back and each said "If Lost, Please Call Mommy (cell) #" and "If Lost, Please call Daddy (cell)#"

We also played "Who is a Cast Member?" with our 6yo during our entire stay. Since cast members look different everywhere...this made dd a little more comfortable knowing who to go to if she needed help.

the laynards i made for our large group

I don't know if anyone has mentioned these, but as a runner, I keep a ID attached to my shoe at all times. It is like a dog tag in that all the pertinant information is on it: name, number, add, allergies, etc.
You can order these from Road Runner Sports or get them at most running stores like Dicks.
It's a dog tag style tag attached to a velcro strap. You weave it through your shoe laces.

Hi I am looking at these wristbands for dd 6 and dd7, we live in UK, if I were to put our mobile no on these would it work we are on the o2 network and hubby on virgin network, would these phones work in us without any prefix numbers we are both on pay as you go network, can anyone please help us please.

I don't know if they will work, but you could pick up an inexpensive emergency pay-as-you-go phone when you get to the US. It would have a US number.

I guess if a sharpie is the only precaution option you have, then who cares!?! I would definitely scribble on my kiddos if it would help at WDW!:rotfl:

It isn't the only - for us it was the best. The Sharpie goes on in the morning and stays through pool trips, sunscreen, and naps for a few days. Its easily refreshed in the morning in the room, and if you forget a day, can easily still be seen the next day. It doesn't bug the kids the way a bracelet does when we cruise. We started with the Sharpie after we got to the hotel one day to discover lost tags on one of the kids. I also like it because if I do a shoe tag or something, and they switch shoes and I'm not paying attention, I don't need to make sure the tag is attached to what they are wearing, the ID is on them. I like it better than the tattoos because I have a drawer at home with Sharpies in it - I don't need to do any special ordering pre trip or spend more dollars. And if I forget a Sharpie, I can buy one.

We always put our cell phone number on it and then maybe a cell phone number to someone not in the park (normally my mom) also we make sure it has that DD is allergic to sunscreen, kool-aid, and chocolate as to make sure that whoever finds her doesn't give her these. Now she is old enough (3 1/2) to tell people what she can and can't eat but when she was small it scared me to death. She actually wears her necklace most everywhere we go.

Hi have been reading thread, live in UK forgive me for asking what is a sharpie that you are talking about putting names on children not heard of sharpies in UK.

On a sheet of sticker paper I make "labels" for my daughter. Names, cell phones of everyone in our group. I cover each sticker with packing tape to make it a little water proof. I put a sticker each day on her shirt, usually near the armpit area of the shirt (on the outside) where it would not be too tempting for her to pick it off but hopefully where a cast memeber would find it. She is almost 3 and I'll be giving her her first lecture on how to find a cast member if she gets lost this trip.

I also have dog tags, the very small ones, but with my daughter I usually don't have a belt loop or a shoe lace to attach them too. I usually use my dog tags for all of my carry on bags so I have them with me in case I wanted to put them on my daughter.
