Lost baggage - any ideas?

Poor DH. The only thing worse than having stupid US Air lose your luggage is having scoffed when the wife told you to put a change of clothes in your carry on because USAir would lose your bags.

So now he's been in the same clothes since yesterday when I dropped him at the airport to fly across to the UK, went straight from the redeye to the office, finally heading off to bed now. All USAir will do is tell him to check his tracking # on the computer, which just says "still trying to find it." So frustrating.

So, has anyone had any luck in this kind of situation? Any tips?

I've been in the sitation numerous times. I usually purchase necessities (spending normally $100 or so), and wait for my bag to show up. Trust me, it's all you can do. :(

US Air has lost DH's bag several times. If they can't get it to you on the next flight and you need necessities, they usually give those to you at the airport (shave cream, etc) as far as clothes, they will reimburse you in the US for some, check the website and see what it says about that. I am not sure if foreign travel has different rules.

If it's lost, it will eventually be found and returned. If it is never found, then it was stolen by baggage handlers.

I take it your husband flies often and knows to put ID inside the bags. That way, even if it's damaged and the tags ripped off they will be able to identify the owner.

Tell him to go buy more clothes? (and save the receipt and demand repayment from the airline.)

Wait, that won't work because he doesn't listen to you. :rotfl:

Thank you, you're so right! Why am I even worrying about him or trying to help from this side of the pond? :lmao:

He can get some great clothing in the UK, and maybe a small present for his wife.

Do NOT DEMAND anything. Check USAir's website and find out what rules apply to lost luggage over seas. Then follow the rules. Being rude and demanding seems to be the behaviour of the day on the DIS.

Honestly, send him out to get some undies, a short or 2 and a pair of pants and some socks. That should hold him for a couple of days.

If the luggage is not lost, it will show up eventually.

If it is truly lost, it will end up in the lost luggage warehouse in the south. Google lost luggage for more info on the warehouse.

Accusing airline ramp agents of theft is pretty low.

OP, did your husband happen to ask for a direct number to the airport counter at the airport he flew into? I had already walked away from the counter, when I happend to think about this. I went back and got the number. It was a life savior! They knew more than the 800# that I was given. If he didn't get it and can get back to the airport. He might can get the number.

Just because it's not found doesn't mean, it's stolen. There is a huge lost luggage warehouse here. It has some great deals!

Sorry I meant demand as in do all you can to make them repay you. I didn't mean it in the "whiny" way in which it came across.

But really. The airline lost the luggage. Was there a luggage fee? It is on them, not the passenger to worry about the luggage.

It took me a while to find it, but here is USAir's policy on international baggage:

International baggage liability policy
For international travel (including the domestic portions of international flights) to which the Montreal Convention applies, US Airways' liability for loss, delays, or damage to baggage is limited to approximately $1,500 per passenger for checked and unchecked baggage.

So, how many bags did he check?

Thanks for all the info!

He checked one bag. Did not have to pay a fee b/c of gold status. I don't know if he got the direct number. That's a good idea.

Also a relief about the $ limit. I don't think he had more than that in there. Of course, all his favorite suits, but what can you do?

He's down for the night now, I'll email him all this so he will have it in the morning. I wonder, too, if the cust. service number on his gold ff card would be useful?

And hey, I think for Christmas I'll get him some of those silk travel undies you can wash in the sink that dry super quick. Just in case this happens again;)

I know with Delta, their skymiles people were worthless! I kept being told to track it online. BLAH! I found out what time that desk opened and I was on the phone with them the minute they opened. The computer kept saying status unknown. But the lady I talked to said she had it in her hands!

I was in the same bolt as your husband. Overseas with only 1 set of extra clothes.
