And I needed to get it back. The best way to do that? Sign up for races, of course!

I have done NOTHING since the Half! I personally think I need to have a race as a goal or I will never get back out there. So here is my plan:

Monday I am starting Hal Higdon's Intermediate Half Marathon Program to prepare for the Frederick Half Marathon on May 7th. The program is 12 weeks and the even is 12 weeks away. Perfect timing!

In the meantime I plan on signing up for the St. Patty's Day 8K in DC on 3/13 and also a Wild Woman 8K on 4/3.

I am not doing the DL Half. I can't see how it can possibly fit in to my budget with planning a 2 week Hawaii vacation in December/January.

However, I do plan on *crossing fingers* doing the Disney FULL Marathon in 2013 and DL Half later that year.

Now, I will still get a special medal this year. Apparently the Frederick and Baltimore races have a special Maryland Double medal for participants that run the half at both places in the same year. Yay!

So here it is in a nutshell:

3/13 - St. Patty's Day 8K
4/3 - Wild Woman 8K
5/7 - Frederick Half
10/16 - Baltimore Half Marathon (it ends running through Camden Yards. I love the Orioles!)

I will need to fill in June, July August and Sept but that's it in a nutshell.

Time to get my **** moving!

Sounds like a great schedule! Report back and let us know about the Frederick course. I've thought about doing that race, but I've wondered how hilly it is. I've run the Baltimore Half and my advice is prepare for hills! It seemed like the first 10 miles were all uphill! Then the last 3 are down, but I was so beat by then that it didn't matter:rotfl: Good luck in training!

That sounds like a good plan to me. I've looked into that Maryland double and it does look fun. Had the timing worked out better I would have done the Frederick half instead of the National half. I know it is too late for this year but check it out (here is the site). Of all the races I've done it is my favorite (excluding Disney).

i think using races as a motivator is GREAT way to keep on going. i think you have a great plan - with a big goal at the end, and smaller races in between to mix it up and help build toward your end goal.

count me in too for the national half marathon...my first time running this course, or really dc in general...i'm looking forward to it. i just hope it's not too cold at the end of march with a 7 am start...eek!

Last year the weather was perfect for a half. I believe it was about 45-48 degrees.

Hmmm, I wonder if I can talk DBF and DD into doing a relay for the National Half Marathon?

ETA: Nevermind. DD and I didn't finish the WDW Half in less than 2:45. :(

good luck! I always have to have races planned as a motivator to train. SOunds like you have a good plan. The disney full is so fun!

HH Intermediate 1/2 Training Plan - I just started this as well - for a half in May :-)

Sounds like you've got a good plan. I lack motivation too, if I don't have races planned. I make sure I have at least signed up for 1-2 at any given time so I have a goal in sight!

I've been training with the HH Intermediate program, getting ready for the Princess 1/2 marathon.
It's been a great challenge!
Although for the Princess, I'm not going for the PR, but going to have fun and take lots of pictures!

I'll probably use that program again when training for the San Diego Rock & Roll 1/2 marathon at the beginning of June.

Good luck!

So yesterday was my first run in over a month. The program called for 3 miles but I did 2 instead. Strangely enough my pace wasn't that far off of where I left off. Of course it was only 2 miles but I'm happy with how I felt during and after.

Tonight is 4 x 400 and back to 3 miles tomorrow. All of the training for the half in January half I never did back to back running days. Now I'm doing three in a row. Go me!

Oh it felt sooooooo good being back out there. I really did miss it!

I was talking to DD about doing an 8K next month. She asked how many miles that was and I said "only 5". NEVER in a million years did I think I would say ONLY when talking about mileage! lol

I know exactly what you mean. I've been at this only since august and 5 miles is an easy day.:upsidedow
