I just realised today that I had booked a holiday with Virgin for September to the West Coast and had paid a deposit of £240. I am now not going on that holiday and I don't really know what to do.

I can't afford to go on that holiday so that's out.

I can't even afford time or money to go anytime this year.

Do you think they'll change the booking for next year.....but even then I don't really want to tie myself down to dates etc.

I tried to get them to change it to a fly drive to Orlando for DisCon 2002 but then I still lost £120.00 because it was now only one person going so I didn't think it worthwhile - also the flights were still mroe expensive than going with BA in December!

Shall I just cut me losses and let it go? It just seems such a shame:(

We did the same as you sam, we were supposed to be going to Sri Lanka
this year, in view of the trouble they had we didnt want to loose the deposit if we cancelled
it
was £375!!, apprently they would carry the deposit over to the following year
as long as you booked with the same company(with us it was Kuoni), considering their
prices for disney we decided to forgoe the deposit after much deliberating.

...... I'd try to see if you can change it - I know you don't want to be tied down to dates but perhaps they'll give you a cut-off date to let them know by - no harm in trying.

Ask them to change holiday to following year. You can always alter the dates again nearer the time or cancel it if need be. If you cancel this year or next you still lose the same deposit you will just be giving yourself more time to save up.
They might charge you an administration charge for changing the dates.

Hi Sam

I did this with Virgin a few years ago. They held my deposit until the next year but at an admin fee per person of £20. You have nothiong to lose by paying the admin fee from your deposit and holding over the rest. If things fit in next year you'll get to use the deposit if not you'll lose it but why lose it now when theres at least a small chance you'll use it.

That made sense in my head, not sure if it will in print;)

You guys seem to make perfect sense I'll ring Virgin and let you know the outcome about holding the deposit until next year.
Ta ever so
