Losing FastPass if resort reservation is shortened?

My parents are traveling with us to Disney World, but they’re not sure if they will stay the entire 10 nights we are staying. We are arriving April 12th 2020 and because my mom is an accountant, if she is running behind on filing tax returns, she may need to delay her arrival for up to 3 days after we arrive.

Currently they have an onsite resort reservation for the same 10 nights we have, and I will be booking fast passes for all of us at the 60 day window. If they decide to shorten their reservation to 7 nights (arrive 3 days after we arrive) how will it affect their FastPass reservations?

I think the 3 days they cancelled will have the FastPasses deleted because there is no associated resort reservation, but will the fastpasses for their remaining 7 days be deleted as well?

I read that Disney will delete fastpasses for cancelled reservations because some guests were making resort reservations to get the 60 day window and then canceling them.

At the 60 day window, will my parents need to have a 10 day park ticket purchased in order to book fast passes for all 10 days? If there’s a chance they may only go seven days, should they just buy a seven day park ticket and only book fast passes for the 7 days they know for sure they will go? The downside is then they will need a 3 day ticket if they do go for 10 days.

Thanks so much for your advice.

i think all you to do is have a valid onsite hotel booking at all times . so if you have 10 days and switch to 7 days book the new 7 day one add it to the system first then cancel the 10 day booking . you should only lose the fastpasses for the days you dont have a onsite booking for after that

For one thing, if they do decide to start with a 7 day ticket but find out later they can go earlier it's cheaper to just go to guest services to add 3 more days to them rather than buy separate 3 day tickets. I believe you can only book FP+ for the number of days on the tickets. Might be a good case for them to just go with buying a 10 day ticket anyway and spending the extra $40 to $50 each.

If the tickets are booked with their room as a package then they will be able to modify the tickets when they modify the room. If this is done more than 30 days out there is no charge. However, dropping a few days from a resort reservation isn’t as easy as it used to be and may take a few escalated phone calls to accomplish that. As far as fast passes, if they reduce their stay including shortening the tickets from 10 to 7 days they should be fine with fp. If they still have a 10 day ticket that they purchased separately from the room fp won’t be canceled automatically assuming all of you have fp for the same thing. Since you are on site if they are in a fp group with one person from your room the fp wouldn’t be canceled.

If they are linked to you in MDE then your stay should qualify them for the FastPasses. This is how I got FastPasses for my trip in two weeks earlier than my 60
Days - as long as one of their party is on the same FastPass as us, we were good to go.

Oh no. I had hoped maybe I had a chance at FOP with all of the stuff at HS
