Los Angeles Port

Does anyone know what the Los Angeles port is like? We are doing the Mexican Cruise on July 20th and wondered what the port experience will be like. Port Canaveral is so fun and it never feels like you are waiting long. The magic begins for our family when we can see the ship as you come over the big hill.
