Hello! Wondering if anyone has been to any of the LA area wineries? Would love a tour and to pick up a couple bottles to enjoy on our trip. We'll have our 7 year old (who loves to watch "how it's made") with us, so I'm not even sure if that's allowed.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thank you!:surfweb:

There are only a few tasting rooms in the Los Angeles proper area. They are spread out so visiting more than 1 or 2 in a day is tough. Most are tasting rooms and not wineries or vineyards.

For the true wine tasting experience you'll need to go to Solvang or Temecula.

Solvang at 160 miles from Disneyland would be an overnight trip but has some great wineries. The area specializes in Pinot Noir but other varietals are common too. There are several dozen wineries in the region, some right in town, others just a few miles out.

Temecula is 65 miles from Disneyland and makes a great day trip. There are over 20 wineries here. Some are large rather touristy, others are small family wineries.

I've been to both areas many times. Let me know what wines you enjoy and I'll recommend a few to try.

and Temecula is sort of on the way to San Diego (alternate route on the 15 instead of the 5), so if you're going there you could include those wineries.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into the San Antonio winery that a couple of you mentioned. May be a good spot for a lunch.

San Antonio has two tasting rooms in Los Angeles area. One in Los Angeles itself and the other in Ontario. I've only been to the Ontario location. Nearby is http://www.josephfilippiwinery.com also in Ontario. Both are fun, lower priced wines, have free tours, restaurant and are worth a visit.

But wine tasting in a big city enviroment just doesn't do it for me! I enjoy driving through the beautiful countryside, having a picnic lunch among the vineyards and visiting 3 or 4 wineries close together for a great afternoon. For that I'd pick Temecula. Several of these wineries often have BBQ's and live bands playing outside on their picnic grounds on weekends and holidays.

Further south from Temecula towards San Diego is Escondido and Ranch Bernardo. There are several wineries in the region with my favorate being Orfillia on the road to the San Diego Safari Park.

I wish we had more time this trip to check out Temecula. If we don't , we'll definately put on our "to do" list for next trip. San Francisco also. Sad we won't be able to see it either this time. But.... There are only so many days on a vacation..... :)
we'll make the most of it!
