Has anyone ever gone on either of these these tours/excursions? If so, what were your experiences? I read great reviews about these tours on another message board.

Lord Sheffield is a tall ships adventure; Sunny Liston is a tour of shopping/touring/Sapphire Beach.

Thanks.

We did the Lord Sheffield in June and had an absolutely great time!

The ship is a 72' Brigantine (about 30 years old) and Capt. Rob - along with his 2 female crew members n(they're cousins of the Capt.) - were excellent and outgoing hosts throughout. They fed us (there's a grill right on board and ribs were great) and offered unlimited drinks.

We sailed out of Philipsburg (its a 5 minute walk from the cruise terminal) and headed to a great beach just past the french side. There, we could swim to the beach or snorkel around the boat. It was beautiful.

Then we motored back to port along the coastline, enjoying music and drinks. All told, we were out for about 4 hours and it was a great time.

Other highlights were diving off of the bow of the ship into the water and my kids getting to take command of the ship's wheel (w/ supervision of course)

I'd highly recommend it.

We are repeat cruisers on the Disney Magic. While in St. Maarten in January 2005, we went on the Lord Sheffield, and the whole experience exceeded all of our expectations. Captain Rob, Erica and Veronica were so friendly and helpful, the beverages were plentiful (choice of sodas, water, beer, and a terrific rum punch), and the food was delicious (baguettes, cheese, pickled herring, and barbecue ribs right off the grill).

Captain Rob picked the perfect spot to drop anchor near a picturesque beach. We went snorkeling and, with the water so clear, the Angel Fish put on a dazzling show. On the journey back to the dock, we took turns standing at the bowsprit with the wind in our face. It was absolutely exhilarating!

The time we spent on the Lord Sheffield was the highlight of our seven-day cruise in January. It was a fantastic experience that we hope to do again. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

Thanks for the info. I have been planning (yeah my 1st cruise insn't until 6/06) and thinking about excursions etc... nonstop since discovering the dis boards. I have a family of 7 only 5 of whom are cruising. My DSs will be 11, 9 and 8 when we sail. Is this too young for the Lord Sheffield?

Although there were no kids on the Lord Sheffield on the day we sailed, I believe kids will love it. Children are clearly welcome as there is a reduced price for children up to 12-years old. There are "noodles" for those who just want to float in the water.

The 4-1/2 hour tour is called the "Pirates of St. Maarten Day Cruise." The ship, with its tall square sails, just looks like a pirate ship. I believe you could build some excitement with your kids around the theme (talk like a pirate, dress like a pirate).

On the day we sailed, there was plenty of rocking on the ship (which we liked!), due to the wind and waves. For anyone prone to motion sickness going on any sailing activity, be sure to take appropriate medication.
