... anyone seen it yet?

I went with DS2 to see the first film, The Fellowship Of The Ring finally last Monday ( they had a one off special showing at our local cinema) and it really was an incredible experience.

Now both sons have seen the second film, and one says it isn't as good as the first and one says it's better!!

What do you think?

Off to see this on Sunday DH choice and on Monday, Santa Clause 2 - my choice :D

Husband 2 sons and one friend.
husband liked 1st one better
sons and friend loved the second one better
husband thought that it was long in some parts

Shirely,

I thought it was absolutely fantastic, and unbelievably beter than the first one:)

But then I do have a very soft spot for Golom:Pinkbounc

I have to admit, as a real LoTR anorak, I was sorely disappointed with film 2. Peter Jackson has just taken too many liberties with the plot and the characters this time around and, while I found the first film possibly the greatest bit of cinematography of all time, the Two Towers was a bit of a slap in the face. Here's hoping he gets it right with film 3...................

I was just spellbound with The Fellowship of the Ring and have watched it over and over - Kazzie - Oh No!! Legolas is the one for me!! :)

Bryn saw The Two Towers on the day it opened and continues to be well and truly hooked - he reckoned it was better than the first and I'm off to see it with him next week some time (he's seeing it for a third time in January too!! - mind you, both that and the first time are birthday get togethers!).

Must admit to not having read the books but hope to make a start once Christmas is done.

Ooo I've seen it, twice to be accurate! I absolutly loved it. Im not sure I could say one was better than the other. The Fellowship was amazing and very moving at times (to say the least! Im talking hysterical here!). I liked how Merry and Pippin became less of a comic relief aspect in TTT than they were in FOTR.

The Two Towers was a much darker story. It still has the sweeping emotions of the first one, but the moments are much more "personal".

TTT was always going to be the most difficult of the 3 films for Peter Jackson to capture because it has no end and it has no beginning. The characters are all scattered participating in completely unrelated plots. One of the main battles is a group of talking trees versus a stone circle. One of the main characters is not just a member of a fictional species, but a deformed member of such. Yet this was always going to be the make or break installment of the trillogy.

I do apoligise for the length of this! I could have almost made it into an essay couldnt I! Well I guess that's what happens when a 14 year old girl starts talking about something she enjoys!

Rose,

You summed it up very well.............I was wondering how they'd treat the "middle bit"...........we went on New Years eve to watch TTT ( SAD!)..........thought it was brilliant. Never did I think I'd see anybody direct a bunch of living trees and raise any emotions in me....

....................Nice to see you listen to Meatloaf , too!!

Haha! My name's actually Emma, Rose Greenthumb is my hobbit name! Sad I know!

Just got back from see TTT - can only sum it up in one word - stunning!

Can't wait for the DVD to come out now so I can watch it a few more times :)

I went to watch it last night - had to go on my own - couldn't bear to have any loo breaks - Muuuum - I need to go!!
And then sat transfixed for the better part of 2½ hours. Wow!!
Definitely better than the Fellowship!!
And wasn't Smeagol/Gollum sweet/creepy?
Can't decide who is more gorgeous tho' - Aragorn or Legolas.

I saw it on Saturday and, whilst I enjoyed it (any film which holds my interest for 3 hours has to be OK!), it isn't as good as the first. Like Simon, I was disappointed that it wasn't as true to Tolkien's storyline as 'Fellowship'. I know they have to adapt for the screen, but with 3 hours to play with, it could have been done better. I was totally fascinated with Gollum having learned how he is created (from the extras on the Fellowship DVD).

Still, I comfort myself with the knowledge that 'middle' films of trilogies are often a let down. I was totally underwhelmed with Attack of the Clones. Phantom Menace was much better. I even like Jar Jar!

Oh, and definitely Aragorn. No competition!

Bless the UK for giving us ORLANDO BLOOM.

"Legolas Rules!" Undoubtedly!!!! ;)

We went on Saturday and I thought it was fantastic. I enjoyed it more than the Fellowship - but then I havent read any of the books, although I do know the story having listened to the Radio Serial several years ago (how sad are we - we even came back from holiday a day early to catch the final part 'live'!)

Chris is fantatical about the whole 'Tolkien' thing and he sat mesmerised for the whole film - but he hasnt said whether he thought one was better than the other (preoccupied I expect about my surprise birthday party on our return from the cinema). :D :D :D

We have both DVD's of Fellowship (standard and extended version) and was fascinated at the complexity of production. Gollum is amazing - and yes I have an enormous soft spot form him too - those eyes? I felt sorry for him - in a strange sort of way.

Will go and see it again in a couple of weeks to take in more of the details. Gazing at Legolas has nothing whatsoever to do with it ~ Promise! ;)

I managed to fit in a trip to the cinema to watch Two Towers during our ski trip and thought it was brilliant. Much better then the first one although having read all the books I think that Two Towers is better than the Fellowship anyway - more action! I think the 3rd one is going to be fantastic!. Personally I think the changes from the book were what you'd expect in a film and they stuck to the original quite well - one or two small things struck me as a bit of a pointless change but still - a bit of poetic licence. I'm planning to buy them both on DVD and watch them again back to back - sad eh!
I'm with Deb too - Aragorn is gorgeous. And Gollum is really fascinating - don't know how they did it so am looking forward to getting the DVD to see all about that. The eyes were really compulsive.

Not having seen the first I can't comment on it, but I did see Two Towers & I have to say it was far better than I had expected it to be. I was expecting blood & guts & fighting, but it was not that at all. Yeah there was some, but it was an acceptable level. For me anyway.

My eldest DS says they are both much the same as far as he is concerned

Youngest DS says Two Towers is better.........
