Never stayed at the Ft.

Which cabin loop should I try to request? We are Mom/Dad and 19 year old daughter going in January. We will have a car and most days we will drive to the parks but will use the marina transport as well. We won't be swimming and would prefer a pretty quiet location with a woodsy view.
We are currently booked at the Shades of Green but with a promo the cabins are a real possibility.

Boy with your stated requirements I don't think you will be unhappy with any cabin you get. None of the cabins are near the marina with the exception of 2 in the 100 loop that are mostly for VIPs. All the cabins have a woodsy view. The only thing is you might not want to be in the very front of a loop with a bus stop to avoid bus noise. The cabins are very quiet compared to any other resort. You never hear your neighbors unless you are both outside on the deck and someone is very loud. One of my favorite things about the fort is being able to park you vehicle right at you cabin or site and never having to look for a place or go for a hike just to get to your car.

Agree with PP, just wanted to add that you actually can't request the 2 cabins in the 100 loop. You just have to luck out to get those.

Have a great trip!

Thanks! Woodsy sounds good. I think that I may request one a bit away from the bus stops.

The 4/3 deal is (thankfullly) complicating my already made plans for SOG. Oh well!:)

I did figure out that we do save a bit of money if we stay at the cabins 7 nights and move over to the Shades for our last night. Don't know if the effort is worth it.

I was stewing over how to add 2 nights to the 4/3 deal (cf my post below). We finally just made a second reservation for the "extra" 2 nights at FW and we will save about 20% on those nights (although with no break on those days' park admissions) with an AAA discount. Probably beats moving, although I don't know how much less the military resort rate would be. I doubt we will use more than 7 park days, in any case.

Are you active duty? If so, have you called Disney for the military rate? We saved a ton when we stayed in the cabins two weeks ago. It still would have been cheaper to stay at Shades of Green but we loved the fact that we had a full kitchen and bedroom for our young children to nap where we could close the door.

We requested the 2100 and 2500 loops and neither were available. We noticed that the 2100 loop was closed. We ended up in the 2400 loop about a third of the way in and it was great. We drove to the parks every day except the days we went to Magic Kingdom. We rented a golf cart on those days but taking the bus would have been fine.

You might want to request one of the smaller loops so you won't have to walk far to the bus stop because it can be quite a ways on the larger loops.

If it is before Jan try to get the 40% off military Discount for the last night at the cabins. Or the whole thing 40% with the $125 tickets (mil dis). It is only Military so if you are not it wont apply.

I am retired military and we always find a way to stay on the resort with a mil discount. I have never stayed at SOG. Because of our rank, we can get a better deal elsewhere with mil discounts. I always choose a Disney resort. And we really love FW. All sites are great for cabins if you are looking for quiet. I have stay on loop 2100 near the road...no noise. And Loop 2600 three times...no noise.

We are retired military. There is no military rate for January...yet. (fingers crossed!) If I do the 4/3 promo for 7 nights and get the last night discounted I will really close money wise as staying at SOG all week. I like SOG but I would much rather have the full kitchen and cabin.

2600 sounds good!:)

We were big SOG fans (DH is now retired military), and have stayed at SOG prob 8 or 10 times, staying at other WDW properties at a discount when SOG was sold out. We always said that SOG would be our first choice because we loved the size of the rooms and the convenience to MK via the Poly...until we discovered the magic of the Ft Wilderness cabins last week! You cannot beat the space, and the convenience of having your own kitchen! And being able to park your car right by your cabin! And now with parking prices increasing (I think its now $14 to park at the theme parks... SOG now has to pay too - it used to be free for people staying there), the benefits of staying at SOG are less and less. There are so many WDW offers and the discounts at the cabins can't be beat. We wound up paying full rate to get the free dining but it was so worth it for the 5 of us.

Back to loop choices, if 2100 is open, that would be your closest to the Meadows pool, campfire, etc. We stayed in loop 2300 which was also very convenient. We discovered a little shortcut to go to the Meadows. Walked over to the 2100 loop and by cabin 2136 (I think), there is a little path connecting to the comfort station at the 1100 camping loop, follow that loop to the entrance, and cross over to the path that leads to the Meadows pool.

Have fun! Unless SOG starts doing discounts (we pay the max rate), we'll be staying at the Fort! :goodvibes

Thanks for all of your helpful responses!
I have ditched the idea of going to SOg for last night. I am keeping my cabin resv. and then check on final payment date if the last night (eighth night) can be discounted via AAA or maybe Military.

Sounds fun and I can't wait.
