Can anyone tell me where I can get lobster on the DDP other then Capn' Jack's?:confused3
We had it in 05 at Coral Reef but I don't see it on their current menu.:sad2:
Thanks all.:coffee:

We had it at Narcoossee's (as mentioned above) my DM and I each ordered the Surf 'n Turf. I reviewed it on my link below. We both enjoyed the steak, the lobster was okay but the steak was better. And the view was awesome!

I believe that Narcoossee's is the only other restaurant on the DDP serving lobster. Keep in mind that lobster in Florida is either warm water lobster (much smaller and different than its northern cousin) or it has travelled a very long way. If you are from LI or New England, the lobster is FL is likely to disappoint.

I should also add that Ca Grill sometimes offers a lobster appetizer :)

I did a lobster hunt in March :magnify: These were on the menus then, but may have changed by now:

HBD -- no lobster on the menu (except lobster bisque)
Coral Reef has lobster soup
Flying Fish -- lobster appetizer $18.00
California Grill -- lobster appetizer $17.00
Concourse Steakhouse -- lobster bisque $6.99
Maya Grill -- lobster is in the Seafood Margarita $9.95
Narcoossee's -- Steamed Whole Lobster $54.00, Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail $52.
Yachtsman Steakhouse -- Lobster Bisque, $9.00.
Cap'n Jack's -- Twin Lobster Tails $31.99. It was reported by a Disney CM that add a tail is no longer a free add-on with the DDP, but I believe you can still request to pay OOP for one for $12. Would be good to confirm, if someone has been there. Just a thought: for lobster fans, could they order the $12 extra tail as their appetizer course? :scratchin  Might be worth asking about...

The only DDP restaurants that serve lobster as a main course are Cap'n Jacks (1 TS) and Narcoossee's (2 TS). Couple of other places have lobster appetizers or in soup. There are quite a few restaurants NOT on the DDP that have lobster, and can be quite expensive OOP.

Your only other option (besides the tails at Cap'n Jack's) for lobster that is not included in a soup or salad or as part of an appetizer is Narcoosees.

That is a 2 credit restaurant. But according to the menu I have seen, the lobster would cost more than $50 if paid for out of pocket.

Katiebell-

We just went to Cap'n Jacks in late March and at that time adding the Lobster Tail on was still included in the dining plan. The only thing we couldn't do was add a tail onto the twin tails.

when I called this morning to change dates for LTT for the MNSSHP i asked about the lobster @ Cap n Jacks, if it is on e the menu on the DDP, CM said that she didn't believe that lobster would be covered under DDP & that you could pay extra, I guess I will just have to call there because we have that as our 1st dinner there (only for the lobster for DH) she did mention Cape May Cafe for buffet seafood, what does anyone think of that place????? (I am going w/FREE DDP I wonder if they CHANGE the menus just for that time??

Yep, the menu change took place today.

The second link shows the menu as of 4/11, and under "add a tail" is specifies that it ends 4/15/07.

Like I said, I don't even eat lobster  But for those who do...I wonder if they could request the "add a tail" as their appetizer?

The folks you speak to on the telephone aren't at the restaurant itself, and the only way you can know for sure is ask your own server. Be prepared for it to go either way.

My recommendation is to anywhere else for seafood, and go to Cape May for anything other than seafood. The seafood on the buffet there is really incredibly disappointing, as most buffet seafood is.

I read that menu as saying that lobster, itself, is being discontinued from the menu.

Hmm...that would be really weird for them to do. Cap'n Jack's claim-to-fame, so to speak, is the distinction of being the only 1 TS restaurant that offers lobster on the DDP. It's always possible that lobster is being removed from the menu, but that's not the way I read it, nor the way it was explained.

Add a Steamed Lobster Tail to your Entree for 12.00
(Ends April 15 2007)

Seared Salmon "Shank"
with Caper-White Wine Sauce, Rice Pilaf, and seasonal Vegetables 23.99
Twin Lobster Tails
with Drawn Butter, Rice Pilaf, and seasonal Vegetables 31.99...

So it looks to me like the famous "Twin Tails" are still on the menu. He (the server who posted this info) actually took the time to post the most current menus on the boards here. The menus on the DIS are outdated, from 6/06, and the ones on AllEars are from January 2006  and they've changed quite a bit. Hopefully, whoever updates the menus here will bring the ones for Cap'n Jack's up to date.

I don't know...the way I'm reading it is that the twin tails are available as an entree, you just can't order another entree and then add a tail without paying extra for the tail.

Yup, but by the same token, that makes that restaurant a target, too.

It could be seasonal. I remember growing up that we tended to stick to eating lobster in the colder months. Something about allowing time for the beds to restock themselves.

And, as Katie indicated, even with paying extra for the tail, after April 15. Could be. But if they're really getting rid of just "add a tail" then that's surely got to be as a reaction to how guests are using the Dining Plan no?

I wouldn't blame this one on the how the guests are using the plan. I believe it was that the servers were allowing it -- and being told by management that it was fine to include the add-a-tail option to the entree, since it wasn't listed on the menu as an appetizer or a separate entree. But it ended up being too costly for the restaurant to include them in the meals for no additional charge, and so the change. It makes sense, it's an additional item. But for how many people like it, and the menu price, would be nice to see it included as an appetizer choice. Comparable in price to the shrimp cocktail on CJ's menu at $10.99, but the other appetizers currently offered are less.

It used to be that it wasn't safe to eat raw oysters in summer months -- the months without the letter "R" -- June, July, August. Probably due to hot weather and primitive refrigeration, and that extended really to all shellfish. Might also have to do lobster spawning season -- in FL that's April through September. But lobster isn't being removed from the menus of other restaurants, although it might account for the fluctuating "market price" on Shula's or bluezoo's menus. Shouldn't affect Cap'n Jack's menu at all though, because the lobster tails they serve are frozen.

But it ended up being too costly for the restaurant to include them in the meals for no additional charge, and so the change.
I don't get it. Why not just charge Dining Plan patrons for the add-on, just like they have always charged cash guests for the add-on? Why get rid of it for both, rather than just following what has always been the policy stated in the menu? :confused3 Seems to me that there has to be some other reason why that option, charging the Dining Plan guests for the add-on, isn't the answer they came up with. Perhaps they tried to, and guests got belligerent or abusive to CMs?

I asked the same question. The server never mentioned belligerent or abusive guests. It was just a decision entirely made by management -- and management decisions don't always make sense.

Here was my post to him:

and his reply:

His responses were very interesting and enlightening :teeth:

I don't feel that the add-a-tail option should have ever been free with the DDP. It's not like an entree salad that for $2 you can add a few ounces of chicken or shrimp. It was a separate menu item priced at $12. My understanding from other posts in that thread is that you even have to pay extra for crab legs at the Cape May buffet. However, I do feel that the add-a-tail option should definitely be available to all guests OOP (and it is, just not listed on the menu), and they should consider making it an "appetizer" course for the DDP. But, as always, that's just my personal opinion and feelings on the matter. I've worked in the service industry, I've worked in several bakeries, including one that had a full service cafe and did large-scale business catering, but I don't have a business degree. So perhaps there is some logical reason that management would take an incredibly popular, profitable item off the menu.
