Looks like World of Color Debut Will Move to June

So, any possibility of a soft open by the week of May 23. (We usually go to WDW but my DH has a conference, so we will be there.) Leave on May 27, right before Fantasmic opens....hoping for at least one nighttime event to see.

Even Al Lutz says that the push-back for the WoC premiere is still hinging on approval from the president of Disneyland. So it's still not set in stone, IMO. (Al tends to report things before they get final approval, such as Captain EO supposedly coming out in October, and some of the things he reports fall through entirely. So his reports are good guesses but he doesn't know the future.)

OK, this is going to be a seriously sucky trip in May. No DEP, no Fantasmic, no WOC, sigh. This was supposed to be a celebratory trip, one last hurrah before my life changes forever and no good shows... I shoulda gone to WDW...

Yah I kinda go by what Al Lutz says. He gets the real deal insider scoop and only posts when there is something is worth posting. I definitely will be waiting for his answer before I can be disappointed for not seeing it.

I'm sorry you're disappointed! But IF WoC isn't playing (which while perhaps probable, we're not CERTAIN of yet), the crowds should be notably smaller, and hopefully that will pay off in shorter lines too. For me, being able to ride a bunch of rides and not having to shove my way through crowds makes for a wonderful trip too. I know it's not the same but you can also catch Aladdin a couple times before it goes away.

Was June 11th not the opening date? Or is that just the start of the "Summer Nightastic" promotion?
There was a press release that initially read, "Beginning June 11, “Summer Nightastic!” returns to the Disneyland Resort,..." HOWEVER, that press release was later edited removing the date completely. Lots of web rumors are flying based on that initial press release.

Thanks for the update! I'm terrified of the crowds for World of Color too...at this rate it looks like we'll be walking right into them. I sure hope I'm not there opening weekend; oh dear!

I sure hope it will be up and going when we are there June 6-10 especially since we won't get to see the EP. If we weren't going to visit our DD in Idaho after our Disney trip, we would have been at WDW and at least have gotten to see our favorite parade of all times. : (

Rumors are getting stronger that it will open June 11....

There has not been any official date announced by Disney. Until there is, I would not fret about plans, crowds, etc. as it is all based on rumor and speculation. What good will you do yourself worrying about it? You could shuffle your plans only to have Disney announce the date officially and have it go against your new plans.

You are very right and even Al agrees with you. He reports a snap shot in time and when the thinking changes the plans DLR is making also change. That does not mean he or his sources were wrong. It just means things evolve and he reports the current the thought process at the time. I find it fascinating. FWIW he was the first one to report on the big picture of the DCA refurb and new WOC show a few years ago.

DD I agree. To date Al has only reported the late April/early May scenario. Now he is reporting early June as more likely. To me that is worht discussing. This forum is about rumors and people like to hear them. But people should not plan their datesor get bent out of shape based on rumors. :)

I am disappointed too, but am glad that the crowds may be less now. I thought that I had read that Fantasmic would be back the first weekend in May. Am I dreaming that? I've read so much info that it's all running together.

Fantasmic will reappear on May 27 according to many sources.

Looks like the June 11th date has reappeared......from http://www.disneylandnews.com/press+releases/disneyland+offers+value+package.htm

“Summer Nightastic!” Returns
Beginning June 11, “Summer Nightastic!” returns to the Disneyland Resort, featuring exciting evening events that will electrify the night. "Summer Nightastic!" runs through Aug. 29 at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure theme parks.

Also coming this year is the new nighttime water spectacular – “World of Color” – at Disney’s California Adventure park. Surpassing all previous water productions, “World of Color” brings Disney animation to life with powerful fountains that are the stars of the show, forming the world’s largest projected water screen. In the making since 2005, “World of Color” combines hundreds of magnificent fountains, LED-produced dazzling colors, and an all-new kaleidoscope of audio and visual effects to take water-infused entertainment to a new level of artistry.

Located in Paradise Bay, Disney’s newest production features an unprecedented infrastructure of water effects, larger-than-life projections, lasers, fire, fog, surround sound and stunning images. This technical wizardry, combined with classic, animated Disney and Disney•Pixar film sequences, creates an emotional experience for guests as jaw-dropping effects sweep across the lagoon and soar into the sky.
Meanwhile, at Disneyland park, “Fantasmic!” ignites the night with thrills, life-like creatures including a fire-breathing dragon, and spine-tingling adventures for Sorcerer Mickey. Also, in the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle, “Magical” sparks to life with a dazzling fireworks spectacular in which colorful choreographed pyrotechnics burst and soar to a soundtrack of celebratory Disney songs. “Magical,” which premiered in summer 2009, features both Tinker Bell and Dumbo in flight over the castle.

Thanks for the update, I'm one of those that was hoping for a later date so our May trip would be a calm one...hopefully one with light crowds.

Fantasmic is great...and I'm sure WOC will be AWESOME!! But just because something ISN'T open yet or going through a refurb never makes me upset!! I always know we'll be back!!

When "Remember Dreams.." was brand new we were there and I was packed in a sea of people in front of the hub...I did enjoy it but I've enjoyed it WAY more during the later years!!

We will deal with it just fine, but I am SOOOO disappointed with the date change. We have 2 days in June to visit (more like 1.5 days) starting June 13th. I was hoping the local crowds would've had time to see the show already, but it looks like we'll be competing with everyone one for spots. We may just push back viewing the show to our Christmas trip. I'm not sure its worth the hours upon hour wait!

So we just moved our days from 6/5-7 to 6/11-13. We had no intention of seeing WOC. We just are not HUGE crowd people. In fact we purposely scheduled our last visit to DL to be the day before the big opening of the Nemo subs to avoid some crowds.

We made the change for other reasons, but could adjust the dates if needed.

Did I make a mistake going later into June and taking more risk of hitting those crazy WOC opening crowds??????

As you hate crowds, I can't say your move is a "mistake." There's no guarantee that 6/11 IS the premiere date, and even if it is, there might be soft openings, which would quite possibly fall on your earlier dates and would be heavily attended as well. Your later dates have a bit more in the way of blockout dates (when locals who have the least expensive annual passes can't visit the parks unless they buy a blockout pass for $45) and several people here (including myself) predict that all things being equal, days that are "blocked out" to some or most annual passes (particularly weekdays) will be less busy than those that are not "blocked out". Of course, days without World of Color will almost certainly be less busy than days with it, but there's just no way to know that for certain at this point, unless you plan to go on Grad Nights, and the parks close early those days. (Historically, I have heard that Grad Night days haven't been much or any less crowded than other days but I think World of Color might change that.)

If you really wanted to avoid crowds then I think weekdays earlier in May would probably a better option....unless, of course, World of Color debuts closer to its original date!

This is the press release that replaced the initial one with a date for WoC. You will note it is carefully worded NOT to give a date to WoC.

Summer Nightastic! begins June 11th. While we think of WoC as part of SN, the press release discusses SN and then very carefully says, "Also coming this year... "World of Color."

To ME, this reads that it is separate from SN.

I just hate to see people making and changing plans over something that has not been officially set y Disney. Just trying to help ease some of the "Ah, what do we do!?!?" concerns.

Just to add to what Disney Dreams wrote:

The original Press Release said:
"Beginning June 11, "Summer Nightastic!" returns to the Disneyland Resort, featuring exciting evening events that will electrify the night. "Summer Nightastic!" runs through Aug. 29 at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure theme parks.

You seem to be up on the issues, and it has been known ever since last summer that June would be very busy at DLR on non-blocked AP days just like last June. If you want to miss the biggest crowds then look at AP blockout days. I did not check June 5-7. Are they blocked? That would be your move to go to blockout days. Nothing new here. Just what we have been talking about over the last 9 months. HTH :)

I was at DCA last week watching the World of Color testing and it was beautiful. It was the part with the Cheshire Cat and I also got it on my camcorder. Just I dont know how to get it off my camcorder. The crowds are going to be scary. I wonder how is Disney going to advertise the World of Color when it is ready to debut, hhmmmm....
Its going to be interesting to see will World of Color and Fantasmic play at the same time. I can imagine the wait time will be hours before. I waited 2 hours before Fantasmic just to get a good spot.

Our main days are the first 2 days regardless of which week. The 3rd day is just my daughter and I popping in for a few hours while everyone else sleeps in and checks out. So our big days are the first 2.

On 6/5-6/6, one of the 2 days were blocked. On 6/11-6/12, both dates were blocked.

So it's sounding like maybe we should just stick with the 11th and 12th and hope for the best..... :confused3

If they DO show at the same time, that will help with dispersing the crowds.
