Looks like Disney thinks there will be light crowds this summer

I expect Disney has already been hit with cancelations. I work for an accounting firm and we had a lot of clients who expecting a refund and ended up owing. Many had come to us at the last minute and were blindsided. I knwo a lot of families use thier refunds for extras and if that extra was a vacation that needed to be paid in full in June or July, I imagine those are already cancelled.

We are in a similar boat where we are considering canceling our August trip because of taxes. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet but after getting $8k back in 2018 we owed $6k this year. Ouch.

From our current booking the price would have been $212 more then a $250 GC. For $38 savings it's not worth the hassle to me because the package it already paid off and we already have GCs for spending.

We will be there July 9 - 17. (Booked free dining back in Feb.) I'm hoping for light crowds but the lack of dining reservations has me concerned it will be crowded. Or maybe the lack of reservations is due to the free dining and not crowds? I can hope!

We are going the last week in June and there are plenty of dining reservations. I have also had no trouble getting our FP's. Although I havent checked to see what FP's are available for the top rides here in the past couple of days.

We were able to get FPs for 10 people for FoP and Slinky Dog without any issue, had our pick of times even. Blew my mind considering we’ve been trying for FoP for two years for two people without any luck.

Yes. Disney does not allow discount "stacking".

Just heard from my wife's parents that the Magic Kingdom was packed yesterday, during Disney's typically slow time.
After having gone there over winter and spring break this summer, when I have only gone during the summer in the past, I can see why the summer is turning to their slow period. Parents are happy to pull their kids out of school (or at least enough are), and it is much more pleasant to walk around in 72 degree weather than it is in 94 degree weather.
I specifically own sleeveless shirts only for Disney in July. Probably enough people went during that time and said never again, and it is forcing Disney to incentivize a bit more to get them in.

Yes this could be. It's hot, more crowded and cost more in summer. Hopefully this summer will be lower on crowds.

I don't know, it's going to be what it's going to be. I'm fairly optimistic that things will be very manageable. There are a lot of reasons to believe that crowd trends will be the same as they have the last couple summers. In fact, I just switched around a few ADRs for my party of 13 going in July and didn't have any issues. I do fastpasses next week, so I guess we'll see!

I'm going back in July . Honestly, if I'm at the hotel, the storms can be kind of fun. They clear the parks out for later visits, force me to have downtime, and some of my favorite memories are of sitting on the balcony of my hotel, drink in my hand, watching the bands of rain pass by.

Now that I've said that, it is bound to rain every day of my upcoming trip...

I know to expect the afternoon thunderstorms, but in recent years it seems that Orlando has had some rainy stretches. Curious what part of July you went and how bad the storms were- just so I can not be blindsided.

Last year we were there 7/18-7/23. Rain was one thing but the lightening seemed to drag on for hours shutting down everything in its path. We were prepared with ponchos for rain but the storms had us stumped with what to do as all indoor rides filled up immediately as did shops and restaurants.

If it was just us adults I wouldn’t mind, but our five year old just doesn’t understand. Or this summer we are traveling there with 8 other people who’ve never been including four kids who won’t enjoy drinking on the balcony like we would!

Our "last time" was in August a few years ago. Holy thunder and lightening! I was okay with the heat, although that was pretty awful, but the storms did me in.

Yes, we were stranded a lot as well. I am not a trooper, so hours of torrential rain wil send me inside. The kids were drowned rats that no poncho could help.

My DD and her family went again in July the following year and they also gave up. They enjoyed their trip, but are not going to plan a summer in Disney again.

Our springs are usually my favorite time of year, with sunny blue skies and occasional showers. Last year felt like a monsoon season and I think places up and down the Eastern Seaboard had similar weather, down to Florida. Just rain and more rain. It was an unusual year, thankfully, and this year does not seem to be setting up to be the same level of rainy (at least in the north), not sure about Florida.

I don’t mind a bit of afternoon rain. Getting some relief from the intense sun can be a blessing, and energy in the parks goes down a notch IMO. Good time to take a break, or jump on a few rides if you are inclined. Lightning is scary though- I head inside ASAP!

We were there last July 14-20. It rained once (July 20). You just never know.
FWIW, in all our trips (February, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December) our June trips always end up the wettest (wet enough on 2 separate occasions that we booked a “redo” for August). That’s just Florida in the summer.
