For 8 guests, you would need to rent a 2 bedroom suit or two studios. The advantage to the 2 bedroom is that you get a full kitchen and the studios only have a kitchenette.
You can rent from anyone who owns
DVC points and they will charge you based on the number of points the reservatios takes. They have to make the reservation for you but it would be in your name and you get a confirmation number right away that you can call and check on.
You should use other DIS boards to learn more about the resorts and decide when and where you want to stay and what type of room you want. They have point calculators on one of the pages. I have rented for $10.50 US per point but it will depend on who you rent from, so will payment terms.
Also, try to avoid Friday and Saturday nights as they are double what week nights require for points. For example we own at Saratoga and it is 13 points during the week in July but 26 points for a Friday or Saturday night, each.
