Looking to rent/transfer forum rules?

I saw that in the rent/transfer section rules that it's prohibited to post "I want rent #### of points" or "I need a transfer of #### of points at XYZ resort"

Can anyone explain why this is against the rules? I'd guess it's got something to do with fraud, but I'm not sure.

Perhaps the Disboards owner could charge a fee for someone to post that message to help avoif potential fraud the same way they do for people who want to rent out the points? I'm a "DVC Gold" payer on the forum and have rented points out. Now I'd like to rent someone else's points for a bigger trip where I'm not an owner. It'd be nice ti just post "Who can rent me XXX points for a trip MM/DD/YYYY?'

That rule came about due to the reports of prospective renters getting contacted via email or PM by people who saw their post requesting points. Quite a few of these people were scammers. Same reason we do not want email addresses or other personal information posted in the public forums.

We strongly recommend that no one do business with anyone who INITIATES contact with them & offers to rent points. It's much safer to respond to an offer on the DIS Rent/Transfer Forum and exchange personal information via the Conversation System (aka PM/DM).

I do not see this rule changing. It's served the Community well.

I'm not a tech person by any stretch but it seems like there should be a solution. If only paid posters (DVC Gold or above) or people that met the other requirements to post in the "FOR RENT/TRANSFER" section could reply to the "looking to rent" section, maybe that would solve it?

Maybe there's no incentive for DISboards to serve this scenario though either.

Or you could look for an owner elsewhere, where DIS rules don't apply.
