My God there are so many homes for rent in the Orlando area! After staying offsite this year, I cannot imagine staying onsite and not having a kitchen, dining room, etc. I have checked many websites for vacation homes but I am concerned about the communities where the homes are located.

My in-laws stayed at a home last year and while the house was nice, the nieghborhood wasn't the greatest.

Any suggestions on secure, possibly gated communities located in the nicer sections of Orlando or Kissimmee?

Thanks in advance....

We stayed at VistaPark Resort last year, gated, and security guarded after 5pm.. lovely community, but only in Phase 1 of the building process, so no "community" extras, ie clubhouse, big pool, tennis courts and the like..but management is right there, and they are fabulous, as are the maintenance/housekeeping staff.

Just curious though, if you wouldn't mind sharing the name of the neighborhood? I'm wondering if it may be a development of STR, and permanent residents? Or was it strictly a STR development?

We're giving Glenbrook a try this year..friends of ours are heading to Emerald Island, and my aunt and uncle are staying in Highlands Reserve..I've read good things about all three of those developments:)

KevinM here is a map of communities in the disney area. There are many wonderful areas that I am sure you could be very happy with. We own in Emerald Island resort wich is a gated community less then 3 miles from AK. There are also other communities that are gated such as formosa gardens, arcadia, soldana etc. I will pm you with my web site that has great pictures of the resort. There is a home out there with your name on it I am sure. http://www.thedibb.co.uk/villa/map.htm

KevinM tried to PM you and am not able to if you care to see the pics just pm or email me. Deb

Emerald Island, Windsor Hills and Windsor Palms are three gated communities all with lovely homes and close to the parks. I use www.vrbo.com and start with those three resorts first when trying to choose a home. There are so many to pick from - you really need to think about what's important to you.

We may pay a little more $$ to be closer to the parks but overall it's worth it for us, especially since the homes are such a value in our mind.

Do you have a specific size home in mind (# of bedrooms, baths, etc.) Quite a few people here have posted links to beautiful homes they have stayed at personally and can recommend.

Good luck!

I have stayed in Emerald Island twice with a third stay planned for April 2006. It is just a terrific location and the homes are beautiful. We used the Sherberth Rd short cut and were on Disney property in minutes. Although we are DVC Club members, for some trips an off site location just suits our needs better. I highly recommend Emerald Island.

Price range can make a huge difference. I know we've stayed in Emerald Island in a 3 bedroom in 2003. We've also stayed in 5 bedrooms for less than the 3 because we were willing to stay in Davenport. Which was about a solid 15-18 minute drive. Not any worse than if you stay in the communities near the Walmart on 192.

The map someone linked is great to give an idea of where everything is.

We have stayed in Windsor Hills, Sunset Lakes (our favorite),Formosa Gardens (loved our stay here), Orange Tree and Glenbrook. At the end of the month we will be staying in Calaby Parc. (We are building a permanent residence in the area and have chose not to move our belongings until our house is done)Highlands Reserve looks great.

Would recommend Indian Creek which is just off the 192 in Kissimmee.
A very good selection of 4/5 bedroomed homes, very close to supermarkets/restaurants and with easy access to Disney and the I4.

Cumbrian Lakes, again just off the 192 on Poinciana Boulevard is also very nice.

Is there anywhere bookable for 2/3 weeks for 4 people around Seaworld area or bottom of IDrive? Would love home from home feel rather than apartments like Homewood etc. Need cooking facilities as works out less expensive than always eating out. None of us drive so it would need to be on bus route.

No actual villa suggestion - but:), the bus route info can be found at www.golynx.com Using the dibb map, and comparing with the Lynx map, might give you an idea if there is a villa community that would work for you:)

And the I-Ride Trolley would be something to consider as well:)

We stayed in a lovely 4 bedroom in High Grove last year. It was right at the junction of 192 and 27. I found it at www.onlinefloridavillas.com . We were happy with it. While we were there they were completing the community as well as installing a gate, which once complete would be manned. We are going to Orange Lake this year, but will consider a home again the following year.

Good luck with your search ... there are SOOOOO many out there. I filled in what I was looking for and received at least 100 replies from people with villas looking for renters, so you really do have a good selection!!

I'm glad to see this thread. We are looking to rent one for next Thanksgiving week. At least a 5 bedroom. This will not be an actual Disney vacation but plan on doing other things, although we will have to visit Disney some. Being close to Disney is not a priority though. I've been pouring over house after house but had no idea about the communities. We do have specific amenities so that is narrowing our search. The map on the link above is really good. Better than the one I have seen.

I know that many/most of these home have private pools attached but can anyone recommend a complex that also has a great shared pool area (themed pool, water slides etc.)?

Thanks for all the help. I've recieved over 100 e-mails from owners after submitting my request through onlinefloridavillas.

Now I have to sort through all of the offers!

Good luck ... this is a great way to do it because sometimes they will offer you a good price just to have their place rented out! That is how we came across ours at High Grove. We did drive up and down 27 and there are some REALLY nice subdivisions that are along there.

Have fun choosing!!

Glenbrook resort has a resort size pool that has a fun fountain in the centre too, located by the Clubhouse. And yes all homes have their own pools and some have spas too.
