If by that you mean your family may grow requiring a larger unit, then yes. points charts can change a little year-to-year but the change should not be that dramatic.

This. DVC cannot drastically change the point charts in such a way that this occurs. The number of points at every resort is static and does not change. They can rearrange seasons.

It's like a pie. Pie is finite. You can't say that all of a sudden it is 2xPie.

Even the changes to the lock-off premium originally proposed for 2020 wouldn't take a week's worth of points, same unit/season, to a weekend.

I would only buy resale if you don’t finance...too much happens that convince you to pay off later and later. If you set a definite plan where you pay it off in 12 months- then maybe.
Definitely wouldn’t buy direct. I would buy resale at Old Key West (extended) or Saratoga Springs for under $90 a point. Spend $9500 (closing costs included) on 100 points and don’t forget the $18,000 you will pay in maintenance fees if you keep it that long. Make sure you incorporate that into your budget. We avoided buying our first 25 years of marriage and we came out better. We have been to Disney 8x and always scored free dining or 40-60% off Deluxe rooms- heck, we even got AKL for $129 a night the 2nd year it was open- and that was Savannah view. But, like you said- room rates took a huge hike the past two years- so we will save the next few months to pay it in full when we bid. Good luck!!

Totally agree with other poster, rent DVC points for your Nov 2020 trip, I would think your accommodation costs will go down. Then after that trip you can really see if your family wants to jump in and buy a contract.

Staying at Contemporary resort, garden wing deluxe room. We are paying roughly $5,500 for the hotel stay only. We are in our early 30's with a 5 year old and one on the way.

Two adults and two small children would be crowded in a studio at BLT. With the sleeper sofa opened up, it may be hard to find a good spot to put a pack and play for the baby.

One way a studio would work is if you brought an inflatable bed for the 5yo and kept the couch folded, and you can fit the pack and play in the kitchenette or in the little alcove when you first come in (both locations are sort of dark, but we usually use the alcove area for the stroller/double stroller). The garden wing deluxe hotel rooms do offer more space - the 5yo can sleep on the daybed and then there is still lots of room for a pack and play or crib, though you'll all be in the same room. The bathroom in the hotel section is better, too, because it is larger and has double sinks.

tl; dr? With your family size and make-up, a hotel room might be better set up than a studio.

Note: if you rent points, you won't be able to book until Dec 2019 from a BLT owner, or you can gamble and try to rent at a slightly lower cost at the 7mo window in April. You might want to consider renting a 1br, though, which would still cost less, be easier to rent, has 2 full baths, and a full kitchen and in-unit laundry. With a baby, I found the kitchen and laundry to be well worth the "extra" cost. And if it costs less than a hotel room on cash, then go for it.
