We are a family of 8 and wonder how many points would work for 1 week per year high season? Also what are your yearly maint. costs? We haven't decided on a home resort yet.
THX.

You will always find a DEAL somewhere, the question is, does a time share motivate you to take that vacation in style every year.

When looking at the point charts I was suprised that 2 studio at OKW (room for 8 with 2 queen beds) is cheaper point wise that a 1 bedroom(5 persons). Depending on the ages of the kids in the family you may be able to get away with 2 studios (granted they will not be side by side) If you can manage without a kitchen and washer and dryer (we personally do...others feel it is not a vacation without those amenities) you might be able to save some points that way. I would recommend you check a points chart (I very often used the one on dvcbyrequest.com) to give me an idea of what points each resort would require, add a few (15-25) as a realocation buffer and go from there. It really depends on where you want to stay. You could purchase 1/2 the amount needed at first and go every other year to see if it suits you. This way you can also have 2 smaller contracts which you could sell later on as the children who travel with you lessen. You could also purchase a second contract at a different resort thus giving you 2 home resorts with an 11 month booking advantage. With banking and borrowing you could go to each of your home resorts every other year.

As far as dues that really depends on where you buy and how many points you have. The resale markets have a list of what the dues are for each resort and you would just X's it by the amount of points you want.

You need to find out where you want to stay and buy before you even think about buying into DVC. Dues vary with each location. Some are higher than others. Some will go higher than they are now. Points vary from resort to resort, so where you want to stay will vary as well. If you have eight, you will want a two bedroom and not two studios. Two studios will never connect and they could be on different floors, different wings, different buildings. Some of the two bedroom villas will sleep nine with the addition of the sleeper chair. Some will only sleep eight because they are too small to add that sleeper chair. They may let you have nine, but you'll have to provide your own bedding and linens. DVC won't provide anything for that ninth person in those villas.

Whoa, trying to get a fast 50 posts? ;)

If you want to go every year and are a family of 8, get somewhere in the vicinity of 300 points. You will need a 2br with that large of a family. We are a family of 7 and would not stay in anything but a 2br villa which will run you somewhere between 280-350 pts per week during high season. dues will be somewhere around 1200-1600 for 300

Thanks for the answers. We're looking at SSR & AKV.

We are a family of 7 and bought 250pts, and soon realized it wasn't enough. So we bought 280 more. Then we bought 160 more, then 85 more.

We now take a long family vacation (9-14 days) in a 2bdrm each year and 1 or two trips just the two of us in a studio. We also have enough to bring along friends or family when we so desire.

Oh, this doesn't include Aulani points :-)
