Looking to buy....UY question

My apologies up front about for this question, as I'm certain there are plenty of threads out there already about it.

My wife and I will be looking to buy into AKV in the next month or so , and I have a question about use years. From what I've gathered from the boards, there was a recent change to the banking system that has had an impact on the way people choose use years to plan/bank/borrow/etc.

As my wife and I both work in education, we will be vacationing with the family primarily in the summer months (June - August), and occasionally throughout the year as well.

Could someone suggest a use year that would make sense for us (and an explanation, or link to a thread, to help understand why one month might be better than another)?

Use Year is the month each year when your points are renewed. It also determines your banking deadline (you can bank points thru the end of the 8th month of your Use Year).

If you primarily travel in June - August a June Use Year would work well. Use Year has no bearing on when you may travel or when you can make a reservation (that is always 11 months at your home resort and 7 months at other resorts) - BUT - in the event you need to cancel a reservation your Use Year could create a situation where it would possiby be difficult to reuse the points.

If you have a June Use Year your point smay be used from June 1 - the following May 31 and may be banked thru January 31. If you make a reservation for May and discover in late March you need to cancel - the points will be returned to your account but they would still need to be used by May 31 and can noi longer be banked since you are beyond the banking deadline. If you have a June reservation and cancel in April, you would still have until the next may 31 to use the points or bank them.

If you guys vacation mainly June-August, I would suggest a Sep-Feb UY. This might help you from losing points in the event of a forced late reservation cancellation.

I want to change this thought. The better UY would be June-Jan.
