Mods, please move if this isn't in the right spot, and my apologies if it's not!

Our planned trip isn't until 2012. We had been looking to stay at CSR but now I'm looking at the possibility of renting DVC points and booking in at *. Whenabouts should I begin inquiring about this, and when will the 2012 points grid be up so I can figure out how many points I will need to pull it off? Also, from what I can see on here, am I correct in saying that cancellation policies for DVC owners who rent can vary, from "no cancels" to "up to 30 day cancels"? My head's swimming a bit from trying to take in all the info I've seen here and other sites.

I am still at the "figuring out" stage, and if it turns out it would work better for us to not go the DVC rental route, I certainly won't be heartbroken. But I would love to stay at a deluxe resort for even cheaper than a "room only" discount! :hippie: Thanks for your help!

might be the end of 2010 - hard to say.

you are dealing with an individual and not disney. many owners do not allow cancellations at all since it might put them at risk of losing their pts.

renting a DVC reservation is generally cheaper if you book sunday night to thursday night but waiting till the 2012 chart comes out is a good idea.

DVC owners can book 11 months in advance for their home resort and 7 months out at other DVC resorts, so depending on where you want to stay you might want to start looking a year in advance. (BCV during F&W for example might require booking at 11 months out).

here is a good thread to read to get started:

This year the 2011 point charts didn't come up until sometime in the Spring. So you might have to wait for almost a year to get that info.

When you rent a reservation from a member, it's between you and the member you rent from. They set the terms. If you don't like them, find another member. If they don't want to agree to your terms, they tell you no.

It can be a good way to get a wonderful location for not a lot of cash, but you have to deal with their terms. You can't get free dining. You can't get any of the deals that Disney offers on their reservation unless the member wants to offer the same deal - very few, if any, do that. They may not accept a credit card and may require full payment to make the reservation. Or they may let you pay it off.

Actually, the 2011 point charts were available to view on the member website and were quickly posted on the DIS and other Disney fansites, just prior to January 2010. The physical mailing of the charts to members was not until Spring. The charts HAVE to be available by the beginning of the booking window at 11 months, or we would not be able to book the rooms.
